So GoT and I are making the drive from CA to WA yesterday, and by the time we get near Roseberg, OR we're ready for our first non-gas break. Conveniently, Seven Feathers casino is right there, so we stop for awhile. Thanks to the freedom a radar detector provides, we're 2 hours ahead of schedule.

So we sit at a new table (3-6, which is the biggest game going so far), and the first time GoT comes UTG, he straddles. I'm sitting to his left and re-straddle (well, only 3-bet in the blind really, I'm told it's not live - no matter, GoT is capping blind anyway).

4 of us see the flop, which comes T44r. GoT bets, and I look at my cards for the first time: 42s. Beauty. Blah blah blah, MHIG. Big pot.

Very next orbit, half the table grumbles as we do the same thing. This time, though, we've talked 2 other people at the table into overs buttons (first time I've ever seen overs at a table that small), and the fun begins anew. Two people coldcall, GoT caps, blah blah blah. I notice that the only 4 people in this hand all have overs, and GoT bets out $6 on the flop. I look at my cards, and raise AA. Blah blah blah, MHIG, table hates me.

Good times.

It's posts like this that make me really want to play live.

Hey Dude, you usually play at the Muck, right? I'm in Seattle but haven't worked up the courage to play live yet. Maybe someday soon.

Yeah, it's my most regular place to play when I'm in WA. I'm in town for about a month, so feel free to shoot me a PM when you're planning on going and I'll try my best to be there. I'll shoot you a note when I'm going, if I can remember.

overs button = if an overs player wins the pot then all overs players get to play the next pot at double the stakes? not really sure what that means. I remember a Cooke article where they had them

I think overs button = when all the non-overs have folded, the stakes double for the remainder of that hand, IIRC. Someone validate that for me?

Yep, that is correct.

Wow they dropped the Kill in the game?

That's a shame. I like the Seven feathers room, a little small but nice, just not enough players.

The only problem with this post is claiming that straddling is non-content when clearly the blind straddle is the pinnacle of poker skill.

Another side note. In the 4 times we pulled the straddle action, not once did we get 4-bet. It simply amazes me how passively people at this level can play.

No, they had a kill game that got going after our game started, but neither of us wanted to leave since our action turned the table extremely loose passive.

Slavic and me were yapping about this the other night about when you guys did it at the hideaway game. How that double straddle really broke open the game to chip flying. It can have it's benefits.

Yeah, we often do it for fun, but also often for EV purposes. A well-timed straddle can do wonders for the game conditions as well as your table image. While we do it more often when playing lower limits, it can be profitably done in midstakes games as well - especially in Vegas.

That's because their hand wasn't as good as your 42s.
