They actually have a Kobe vs. Shaq tracker on espn.com... here (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/index)

Who cares? Doesn't everybody just care about the Sonics' dominance??

no, its just a fluke, plus the team doesn't have annoying egomaniac players or criminals. Why would the anyone notice them?

[/ QUOTE ]haha, the first part was obviously a joke, but the second part is true, IMO.

yeah, its true and even if people start to take them seriously as a playoff contender they will never take them seriously as a title contender

This is true...the Sonics may or may not be a fluke, but they can't be taken seriously as a title contender until they're actually in the finals.

[/ QUOTE ] This is sort of silly though, are the Timberwolves or Kings a title contender? You don't need to be there in order to be considered one, IMO. In the Sonics case, they need to continue to play well to be consider a title contender, but they should be considered one if they keep this up.

I read an article today in which Don Nelson was basically saying that in the playoffs, teams with talent win, and so he doesn't expect the Sonics to do well. He compared them to his past Dallas teams, whatever, the 2004 Sonics actually play defense, which is something Dallas has never done. This Sonics team, right now, is the team to beat.

The Sonics have certainly been the best team so far.

My point, though, is that teams in the NBA typically don't go from bad one year to winning a title the next. It generally takes a few years of playoff frustration before they break through. As good as the Sonics seem to be right now, I don't think they could beat San Antonio in the playoffs. Minnesota or Sacramento may be tough for them as well.

true, but the Sonics haven't been that bad the past couple years. IIRC, they made the playoffs two seasons ago, and last year they were 3 out or something like that. Last year the Sonics probably would have been a 5-6 seed in the East, so they haven't been that bad. Last year injuries really killed the team too.
