What's the best/worst movie sequel you've seen? I've seen a lot of sequels after which I couldn't even watch the original, they were so bad. I've also seen some that were at least debatably better than the originals.

BEST: Back to the Future I and II.

Jurassic Park was pretty good. The Lost World is on my worst movies ever list.

EDIT: I'll second the Back to the Future movies. I think Back to the Future II is the second best sequel of all time, behind The Godfather II of course.

Best sequel ever is the Godfather Part II. "And it ain't close," as they say.

Worst, I would go with any of the Star Wars prequels.

I thought that II was the best of the series and III the worst. There's so many sweet time travel concepts played out in the second one. I'm also not a huge western fan.

Best is Terminator 2 - as good if not better than the first.

I thought Spiderman 2 was at least as good as, and arguably better than, the first Spiderman.

Terminator 2 was pretty good.

I like Aliens better than Alien.

For a bad sequel, look no further than Highlander 2...the first one was pretty good, but the 2nd was an enormous steaming turd.

I consider the second and third to just be one really bad movie broken up into two parts. Neither was really enough on it's own to be called a movie, and neither hand an ending worth speaking about. What a way to turn a solid gold movie into total crap.

T2 was definitely a very good movie. Better than T1? I'm not sure on that, but it's close.

Good one. I think my favorite scene in that one is where the aliens are above the ceiling and getting really close.

Worst sequel - wouldn't necessarily be the second, but Batman after Keaton left. Not nearly as good.

Tim: Joe I think you will agree with me that Godfather II is by far the greatest sequel ever made.

Joe: Absolutely Tim. As for worst the Beverly Hills Cop sequels were both horrific.

Tim: Those were a couple of real stinkers Tim. I would also add The Matrix sequels for a couple of recent disappointments.

dr. klopek

what I hate is the sequels that take place way after the original movie, like "Halloween H2o," or "Alien Resurrection." When I was talking about movies that ruin the originals, I was referring to the "Star Wars" prequels. I look at Darth Vader and picture that kid...ugh. Godfather III is the most horrendous abortion of a movie sequel I've ever seen. Oh, and T1 is better than T2, and T3 is no good.

No, because it didn't have the advantage of the weird setup and figuring out what the hell happened to him, and because they killed what's her name, Famke or whatever.

Both were poor adaptations of the books anyway. Saying one is better than the other is sort of like saying the second time I got fukced in prison was better than the first.

Terminator 2 was pretty good.

I like Aliens better than Alien.

[/ QUOTE ]

Terminator 2 and Aliens both did precisely the same thing. They largely dropped the "horror" aspect of the film, and went straight action. Both did a great job of it, but comparing them to the first is tricky since they're different types of movies.

Here's some votes for the worst:

The Next Karate Kid (Karate Kid 4) (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/next_karate_kid/)

"This is a series that did not need one sequel. This is a series that never needed three."
-- John Ulmer, MOVIE-VAULT.COM

House Party 4 (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/house_party_4/)

Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/police_academy_7_mission_to_moscow/)

"Easily the worst in a miserable franchise, Mission to Moscow makes Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol look like Battleship Potemkin."
-- Martin Scribbs, LOW IQ CANADIAN

Revenge of the Nerds 4: Nerds in Love (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/revenge_of_the_nerds_iv_nerds_in_love/)

Synopsis:
When Booger plans to marry a rich man's daughter the man hires a detective to dig up some dirt on the nerd. Meanwhile the nerds throw a wild bachelor party.

HP3 > HP2+1

Empire Strikes Back > New Hope

The original Terminator is better than T2 as far as acting, cinematography and suspense and drama are concerned. T2 has that annoying kid, a bizarre character change for Sarah Connor, and much cooler action and special effects.

I remember going to the theater to watch this movie after preparing myself for how bad it was going to be. I shocked by how much worse it was than I could have ever expected.

It was almost as bad as The Matrix Retarded and Revulsions.

"You vill lose."

"What started out as a joke, has turned into a tragedy."

"You don't have the genetics to win!"
