hi, my name is sotiris and this is my first post.

im from australia and have just started playing poker online.ive been playing poker for four years and consider my self to be an excellent player.so far ive had the following results playing pp no limit hodem tourneys($10&$20).

total tourneys=76

total 1sts=16 ie:21%

total 2nds=9 ie:12%

total 3rds=7 ie:9%

the exchange rate is 2:1 hence im averaging $16.75hour aussie dollars(im assumiming each touney takes one hour on average). i get $15 an hour currently, working as an electronics technician.

i have never made any serious money fom poker before because the rake in aussie casinos for 48 and 612 holdem is 10% $6cap. what do think boys and girls, can i do it? can i tell the boss were to go? what do the stats say to you?early days yet?what percentages do the pros average long term? any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not currently but have played full time 3 times in my life (once for about 3-4 years).

Although your results so far are impressive, I think it's a bit premature to be giving your boss notice. Sounds to me like you have an excellent source of supplemental income and if you can sock it away to where you have a sufficient BR you can try it then.

If you've never played full time before, don't jump right into it because of your ego and what you think is a proven track record. There are many variables involved when playing for a living. One is that money you play with and money you pay the bills with are 2 separate kitties.

I suggest maybe purchasing a couple of books that are available on this very subject (playing for a living).

Hope this helps.

KC50 gives a very good response below, but let me suppliment. I have never played professionally, and I seriously doubt I ever will. I do love to play, and I use it as a way to suppliment my income nicely. I got heavily involved in the single table tourneys on Paradise a few months ago, and I have some hard data results you can compare to your own.

I played 174 single table tourneys on Paradise. I placed first in 22 tourneys 12.64% second 24 times 13.79% and third 19 times 10.92%. For a total of 65 times in the money or 37.36%. They were a mix of 10,20 and 30 dollar events(Mostly $10).

I invested $2211 I returned $2640 for a profit of $429 or 19.4%. My average was $15.17 per tourney.

Take it for what it is worth. I think keeping your job, and playing online to build a bankroll is the best approach.

Good luck,

Fitz

thanks fitz and kc50. i know that its still early

days. not enough data for me to have an acurate $tourny result.by the way fits, you made a mistake calculating your $tourny.i will show you why

lets asume you played all $10 tournys.

exp=((13x40 +14x20 +11x10)-620)/100

exp=$1.90 per 10$ tourny

hence if they were all $30 tournys, your expectation would be 3x1.90 or $5.70/tourny.

youre calculation of $15.17/ tourny must be wrong.

sorry but thems the facts. i just got an idea!!!

im going to write a computer program that will calculate the standard deviation of $/tourny given

say 100,200,500,1000,2000,5000,10000 tournys using different values for probability(1st,2nd and 3rd).

first i will try pr(1st)=10% pr(2nd)=10% pr(3rd)=10% ie: what is the standard deviation of a break even player after 100,200,500..etc tournys. i will post my results soon.

I'll have to check my math. I did that on the fly, and I'm far removed from doing stats everyday. I'd be interested to see your program when it's done.

Good luck, and may the flop be with you,
