View Full Version : bad play, busted out

so i was in Tucson AZ for a week, culminating in a wedding on saturday night, may 25th. i wanted to go and have some fun with the $5 tournaments run at the Desert Diamond Casino. i went and played 1 limit HE tourney earlier in the week. and i came back on thursday to play the NLHE tourney. my directions to the casino were a bit hazy both times, and i had to double back and take the long way around to get there about 10 minutes late.

i take my seat in the NLHE event. everybody starts with $200. my stack was down to $125. kinda sucked. i was pissed i got there late, but was determined to make whatever choices i could. i folded my first 3 hands, which all would have turned out to have flopped the nuts or a draw which came on the turn. three pretty decent pots would have been mine. but im not playing 36o, J8o, or 49o. didn't do anything, folded, folded, did the add-on at the end of the rebuy/add-on stage. i now had $400. 2 people fold (we are 8 handed currently. they haven't filled the seats yet, as the tourney moves VERY quickly.) and i look down at KdTd. the blinds are 50-100. i raise to $200. everyone folds, and i get reraised my last $200. i call, flop a K, but get shown down AK. im out, goodbye, sat for only 20 minutes (i don't have the money right now to actually play cash games. otherwise no problem).

i'd like your comments on this. the limits were raised very very quickly. not even a full round of blinds between each change. its a major crapshoot. i just want to know if i made the right decision. should i have waited for a better hand? the next level of 100-200 could very well be instated before the blinds get to me. thats half my stack on the BB.

You should have pushed all-in. Minimum raises are bad play to begin with - when they take up 1/2 your stack they are even worse as you're pot committed anyway.

Muck or all-in.

The fact the blinds are 50-100, means you need to find a hand before you get to the blinds.

If you commit a third, be prepared to commit all of them.

As it was, I agree with the others...a muck or an all in....not really a mininum raise move here.

Im definitely not sayng I would call!!

But, isnīt this a hand where you actually could call?

true. a move in would be my best play. unfortunately, the stack that busted my was in good enough shap to call me easily with AK (i don't remember if he was suited.) i don't like limping though. its a trouble hand, and i'd rather not have to outplay many people postflop.
