I was wondering about what are good looking numbers for ROI and ITM for SnGs that have 5,8,20 people sitting. If there is a formula for these calculations toss it to me please.

Thanks,

Melch

A good player in a profitable percentage-payout tournament situation should expect to finish ITM 25%-40% more often than randomness would explain. To estimate a "good" ROI, just assume an equal proportion of paid finishes based on the expected ITM%.

For example, in a 20-player SNG that pays 1st-40%, 2nd-30%, 3rd-20% and 4th-10%, you can expect to finish ITM 20% of the time randomly. A good player should expect an ITM% of 25%-28%. That corresponds to an ROI of 13% - 27%, assuming equal proportions of paid spots. You can do better if you are able to skew your results with more 1sts.

This is just a guideline, it's certainly possible to do better. In general, the more players there are, the higher your ROI can be. A good multitable player can often acheive 80-100% ROI for tournaments with more than 80 players.
