Does anyone have a good file sharing site for music files. I download mostly live tracks from various jam/improv bands, and most of the "legit" sites only have studio recordings. I don't want something like Kazaa, w/ alot of spyware etc. I had been using Ares, but it hasn't worked well lately. Any good site tips are appreciated.

The softare is the best I've come across so far for downloading music.

I agree - I paid $19 for limewire pro - no adware and easily worth the money.

Torrents are the way to go. Get yourself a bittorrent client and start hitting up the tracker sites.

www.suprnova.org (http://www.suprnova.org) is a good place to start.

http://furthurnet.org/

I haven't used it recently, but furthur used to have a tremendous amount of traffic for phish, dead, etc. (It's a client built specifically for jambands).

http://bittorrent.com/

1) Get a bittorrent client
2) Find torrent tracker sites like suprnova.org
3) Download torrents (using the tracker site) with your bittorrent client

There are many bittorrent clients out there. Right now, I'm using ABC (http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/).

It's basically just another kind of P2P, and I would explain it a little more if I had time. Check out the link I provided, and that should clear things up for you.

Thanks guys, I haven't been on here for a few days but I appreciate everyones responses. I tried Limewire way back but I'll check it out again, its probably improved. The bittorrent thing is new to me, but I'll give it a shot.

You [censored] piraters make me sick. Pay for this [censored]. You pay your $55 for Poker Tracker, pay the $4 to rent the movie or $8 to see it in a theater. Don't [censored] steal from some [censored] who probably stole it himself.

How do you play the .rar files that are downloaded? Thank you for any help you may provide.

Thank you,

those are compressed files like .zip files, you need to get an uncompressing program. I think I have winRAR

So I want to get into these file-sharing shenannigans. I bookmarked this thread, but didn't get around to downloading all this software until today.

I downloaded Azureus, which was mentioned in another thread, and winRAR. I went to the filelist.org and clicked on something, it seemed to work, but the transfer rate was like 20kb/s. In the filelist.org FAQ it says to change the upload speed settings, so I did that but it only made it slower.

I'm a total noob to file-sharing, I'm also a tard with computers. I need help.
