Well I just finished a nice turkey sandwich with a Kraft single, mayo and the ends of a loaf of wheat bread.

Why don't you call them heels?

k, i just wondered. I'd never heard anyone refer to them as 'bread loaf ends' before. However, i haven't really discussed the heels of a loaf of breads very often, and wasn't entirely certain that heel was more often said than 'bread loaf ends'.

I guess I should have figured that there was more of a technical name than "bread loaf ends" but I was hungry and not thinking clearly, but my bread loaf end sandwich took care of that.

The end, or heel (depending on the loaf, I don't think of the edge of a baguette or ciabatta loaf as a heel) varies completely from loaf to loaf. With most store bought bread, it just serves to keep the rest fresh, but when I make it at home that's my favorite part

To top off the sandwich I am about to take the yellow outer covering off a banana..

My 4 year old son loves them, so I just feed them to him. I wouldn't eat the ends on a bet.

I put the heels in the brown sugar container, otherwise the brown sugar will lose moisture and get really hard.

The ends are for family members. "Save" them for your loved ones.

Actually, the correct term for them, is 'hot dog buns'.

They definitely make the best toast, if they're not sliced too thinly. And when they're from a really good loaf of sourdough french bread, they're great -- like the beef jerky of the bread world or something, really flavorful and chewy.
