This is interesting -

http://www.partypoker.com/news/events/steps-challenge-04.html

sorta like a multi-stage Sit and Go tournament...with a few chances to recover and bounce back. Probably will require being played more like a satellite then a normal SNG till the final level.

and I just realized the levels are timed instead of every 10 hands....that's important too...a bit more time to play right.

I'm gonna give it a shot....looks like they're having problems filling those 5th seats, but what the hell...I'm bored.

Goddammit. Now I'm going to have to switch some $ to Party from PN just for this.

Somebody report how the Step 1's and 2's are. I'm guessing horribly bad and +EV, enough to make me give up on super qualifiers?

Do you have to continue to the next step immediately? Or once you qualify for next step you can do it at your leisure.

well, it's been 10 min. in this one and no one's busted out yet, though it's close for 1 or 2 - that's not normal...LOL

I think they start a bit tighter....

but the thing is, I don't think you can cash out - I think if you have a thousand dollar entry to Step 5 that you can't just cash it out, but have to play it freeroll style.

which is a drag, and of course, a flatter payout structure (top 4 generally get entry to the next game, next two get to repeat a step.) -

leisure...you get freeroll dollars, I think, which you can use at your leisure.

I'll let you know....

I hope Stars picks up on this idea. I refuse to play on Party.

I just installed Party and the lineup on the Step 5 that's running right now looks like this:

CK_CRUEL
Gigabet (hiya)
EZmuck
The_Huncher
sklanskysux
PaiGowPro
Resolute78

and a dozen others most of whom seem kinda familiar. Yeesh.

The level 3's and level 4's seem more friendly, though. The 3's in particular are probably easier since all the cool kids buy into the 4's.

It would be a lot more interesting if more people knew about it. It takes forever to fill up Steps 3-5.

So Party has invented a way to serve up a few po' $11 players directly to the likes of Gigabet? I bet those big-dollar players are drooling at just the thought of it.

The Best SNG players on party surely love the idea of playing a 1000 dollar SNG with some regular players of the 20's and 30'2 who would never dream of taking them on otherwise. I find it pretty hard to believe that even your average 50+5 player could actually catch lucky enough to cash in this thing even ONCE in over 100 tries (starting at step 2) I dont think you would even see many of them making it to the final step. Then again this is Party and the few that do make it will surely make playing these things HIGHLY profitable.

Hi, just wanted to add some thoughts about the STEPS. I played in the 1st step last night. It is definately not a cakewalk. While the players aren't that great, its compareable to about a 30+3. There was some mention of the blinds being by 10 min instead of hands and while this is an improvement it still became a push fest in the one i was in. I ended up busting out in 7th after open pushing ~T1500 at the 200/400 blinds on the button with ATo and getting called by the sb's AJo and bb's KK. Stealing is ESSENTIAL in this one.

Yea. That's not an outlier, either. So far they all seem to look like that. Makes 'em fun to watch though. I recognize 5 names from 2+2 in one going on now, and I may be missing a couple more.

I agree, they are not nearly as soft as I would have expected.

I lost to the same hand in mine...the chump called for a third of his stack with J10 suited and flopped an openender...

ah well...next time all in preflop with AK /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yuck. That seems like a cheap device to prevent people from keeping their winnings. "You win! Guess what, you can't cash out!"

Not for me... I play SnGs partly for the low variance. This entirely defeats that purpose.

took me about 15 minutes to ifnd a game. they were all full. Seems like its going to be popular. Hopefully i get to step 2 ! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just played 5 Step 3's and won entry to Step 4 in 4 of them. So far so good, out of every 12 times I enter Step 3 I need just one 4th place finish in Step 5. I think this could be very EV+ for me.

is there any way to sell your seat if you make the last step?

giga is one of the better SNG players? No offense intended. I was just watching one and noticed after reading this thread that he was in it.
