I may be seeing monsters under the bed, but I'm thinking he boated up when that second 8 fell. I'll call him down but I seem to be a passive player postflop (pokertracker tells me so).

edit: in other words, I'm going to play it like you did.

edit again: hm, I don't know about that, he'd have raised TT or JJ UTG, wouldn't he?

I would 3-bet this flop since a lot of cards might kill your action on the turn-plus he probably has JT or 88 and is going to go for a lot of bets with you anyway.
