It's not the y'all that makes the moron. It's a much larger collection of Georgian-speak that I just haven't quite come to terms with in my 13 years of living here. It just really bugs me how they all seem to write it wrong.

I never lived in a part of Texas where y'all was prevelant, I lived in Corpus Christi, so it was a lot more Spanish. Also, what self-respecting Texan has sushi as his avatar? Shouldn't that be a steak, of no less than 18 oz? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

The two that bug me the most of the ones I didn't see mentioned right away(I could care less, is the main one, but that's been mentioned):

I would of, should of, could of....the word is could HAVE...could of does not even make any sense for crying out loud! It's one thing to spell incorrectly, but this is actually chosing the wrong word entirely. This used to be a mistake only a boob would make, but now I see intelligent people making it all the time. How could anyone ever make that mistake?

And, Compare and Contrast. That's stupid and redundant. Contrast is inherent in the concept of comparison.

And here's a minor one that I do myself way too much: there's. As in, "There's reasons dogs eat so fast." For some reason, "there" is contracted with "is" a lot even when it should be contracted with "are." I see newscasters doing this a lot; I guess it's just laziness and habit, and an overall lack of respect for good speaking and writing skills in society becoming the norm.

People go on for days and days trying to make a thread with the largest number of replies. Why not quotes?

[/ QUOTE ]
yea this looks pretty cool

[/ QUOTE ]
I agree.

[/ QUOTE ]
this thread sucks

[/ QUOTE ]

You just did that so we'd get all your "in riposta di"s. Why does that happen, do you read 2+2 in Spanish? Is the tag still [/ quote]?

[/ QUOTE ]

That is Italian, not Spanish.

...orientated.

[/ QUOTE ]
That one makes me crazy.

[/ QUOTE ]

Please explain to me what's wrong with "orientated". Are you talking about the word itself or just how it's annoying that people use the term as part of meaningless corporate-speak?

[/ QUOTE ]

You get oriented, not orientated.

My least favorite business buzzword/cliche is "moving forward."

Anytime I hear someone say that, I want to bash them in the face with a hammer.

I only ever learnt French and German (badly, but I could probably recognise them), so I had to guess.

Yeah, that's one that doesn't make sense even in its conception; amazing anyone would ever try to actually use it.

People who use the word "pro-active" because they heard it in a management meeting, but don't really know what it means.

I hate it when people (or signs) say "ATM machine" or "PIN number." It's like saying "Automated Teller Machine Machine" or "Personal Identification Number Number."

I also cannot stand the misuse of "it's" and "its," and apostrophe errors in general. (Becoming a copy editor may well have ruined my life.)

Apparently not.
