Looking to get my brother a set for Christmas. What's the best kind to get? Looking for like 500 or so with a nice case. What's the best quality for a decent price?(around $200 maybe)

If you want "nice" chips for $200, I'd probably go for something like the nevadajacks.com composite chips in a set of 300. If you are really set about only paying $200 for them and really want a 500 chip set, some have said they liked the 13.5g "holdem" chips from 5stardeal.com

I have the samples of the nevada jacks and if I liked the graphics better I would snap them up at that price. I have never seen the 13.5g chips.

edit: if you want top of the line and you only have $200, get him $200 worth of a stock chipco style and he can add on later.

search "paulson chips" or "chipco chips" on e bay

these are usually between $1.00 and $2.00 including shipping each but are the highest quality out there.

I recommend you use pay pal buyers credit for e bay purchases as it has 100% buyers protection on all purchases made with it .

then bounce the balance over to a 0.0% credit card or pay it off at the end of the month.

If you have $200 to spend for 500 chips, i.e. forty cents a chip, the best you can buy is Nexgen Las Vegas 12g chips at 5stardeal.com. With the current discount, you can customize your numbers/colors for thirty cents a chip ($150) which leaves $50 for a good case.
The 13g Casino chips are the same price but heavier and not quite as good. The Nexgens are the "next generation" of the 13g Casino chips.

Both of these chips are better than anything else for the price. The next step up in quality are the clays from pokerchipcompany at fifty cents a piece.

I really like the NexGens as well and am going to order some for myself. I already ordered a set for my dad, the 650 chips set.. with the 25% discount they offer I paid somewhere around $180 for the set including shipping. THey also fit a 1: round label perfectly, so I am printing labels htat I am going to put on to customize them for my dad. A bit labor intensive, but not that hard to do. I ordered the photo glodd labels from a site I gogoled (something like worldoflabels.com ) and ordered the labels from them... only drawback is min, order is 100 sheets which goes for $50, but that gived 6300 labels, plenty to do a few thousand chips if you want to get some for your self.

Before I knew any better I bought a set of the Neophyte line at buypokerchips.com, I like 'em, but I'm not that picky.

I have the 13 gram chips and I think they are the best of the cheap chips. If the nexgen are better they'll be great. The neophytes look nice though and they have been rated highly at a couple of sites.

The Nexgens are better than the 13g (my opinion) but not by much. Slightly harder w/ less weight (12g v 13g). Not worth upgrading from 13g to Nexgen (of course) but if you are considering one or the other, go with Nexgens.
