Assuming all buy-ins are equal ( I know they're not, but for the sake of argument, they are) what ROI should people be shooting for on average?

For the sake or argument, you can not assume something that you know to be false.

My target ROI is 20-25% in the 55's. I'd lock myself up before I'd target that ROI in either the 20's or the 215's.

buy in and # of tables multi-tabling with are two key factors that have to be addressed.

forum is 1-table tourney... so 1 table SnG

buy-in... how bout we just say 3 of them:
$11, $33, $55

I've only started tracking this recently playing $11 1-table SnG with 16 sessions and an ROI of 32%... obviously I need more sessions to see what it will truly be. I'm just wondering what the majority of people would consider a good ROI for each limit of x number of sessions before moving up to the next buy-in level... I shoulda made that more clearly on the first point... I apologize for that.

I'm curious to know how close you think your current ROI is to your actual one. +/- 5%? +/- 10%?

tough question to answer... I'm a numbers guy myself, not a guessing guy... I would say -10 to 15% ... I believe that would be fair. It's probably worse than that though... I won't really be able to give you a fair guess until after I log about 75 sessions or so.

The number is much much higher. After 75 sng's your ROI is likely only good to +/- 50% with a reasonable confidence interval. Basically, even if your ROI is 30% after 75 games, there is still a decent chance that you're a losing player and have just been getting lucky. I've had a 250 game stretch where I was at ROI = 0%, even though I'm around a 28% ROI player after a couple of thousand sng's.

I guess what I'm wondering... is if there's an equivalent to the 300BB rule for moving up in SnG.. in cash games, the general rule is to move up once you've made 300 or more BB as long as you feel comfortable with it... how about SnG's? at what point will one of you guys move up and play a higher buy in level? Kind of a tough question full of variables.. I know. I plan on staying with $11 tables for awhile still /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just don't want to kill myself by moving up too fast.

Read the faq at the top of this forum.

The sng equivalent to 300BB is around 30 buy ins.

If your bankroll is between $330-$660 - 10's
If your bankroll is between $660-$990 - 20's
If your bankroll is between $990-$1650 - 30's
If your bankroll is between $1650-$3270 - 50's

Of course, you should only move up if you feel like you can beat the level as well as having the appropriate bankroll.

i think the question is still valid and unanswered here. i haven't really seen a post regarding this. the FAQ says the 25% ROI is "ok". but theres alot of people playing higher levels at a 15-25% ROI but their hourly rate is higher than the buyin below that they might be beating more consistently. so i guess the answer always is, if youre making more per tournament with a lower ROI in a higher level it's still usually correct to move up.

i would still like to hear what people think are good ROI per level though.

And while we're at it . . . what's a good sample size, both for ITM and ROI?

30 buy ins is WAY too conservative as long as you are willing to move down levels if you need to. I would say the play is so bad at the $10's and $20's that 15 buyins should give you a <2% ROR.
