i just bought a new 17" monitor capable of 1600x1200 so i could play 4 poker tables at once. everything is much smaller now. i'm worried that this could effect my eye sight. just this year i've noticed my eye sight has been worse at school and i've started to get worried about it. i'm having trouble reading at far distances. i'm 23 now. does constantly staring at a monitor effect your vision? thanks.

Staring at a pc screen at close distances for long periods is definitely bad for your eyes. I'm too lazy to go find medical reports to quote. 2 things that may help. Go back in time and eat lots of carrots. Also, DO NOT stare at your screen in the dark. Turn a light on behind you or something, backlight in other words. And take frequent breaks. I wouldn't reccomend using a 17" monitor at 1600x1200 either. Thats just unnecessary strain on your eyes. Drop it down a notch or two, and just overlap tables.

I remember seeing something on slashdot.org saying that it's very bad, but I couldn't find the article.

Why aren't every 80 and 90 year old geezer blind from all those years in sunlight?

I remember when tv's had that little dot of white light when you turned it off (back in the 1960's). Everyone said don't look at it or you'll go blind...

Computer monitors cause glaucoma = urban myth.

Urban myth or scientific truth? (http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/news/38198.html)
