Other interesting stuff:

Chip Reese and Barry Greenstein were rumored to be involved with SS2. Apparently they were not. They did not write a section. Also, SS2 has cariacatures of all the authors like SS1 did. The insider front cover has a cariacature of all the authors sitting around a table. No Greenstein or Reese.

Also absent is the section on Chinese Poker which I recall being mentioned in the past.

Didn't you say in a previous post that they were shipping from Costa Rica? Mine came from:

Malloy - Cardoza Publishing
(734) 665-6113
5411 Jackson Rd.
Ann Arbor, MI 48103

It might explain why I received mine faster than many people. Ann Arbor is very close to where I live. I'm guessing it's not shipping from Costa Rica, but instead from various warehouses across the country.

What are you guys talking about? I don't follow; the reply doesn't relate at all to the original question. Anyways, as I said above, it was sent UPS.

I have read through most of the sections that aren't on a specific game. Doyle's updated story and the history of NLHE are both pretty good reads. Doyle's online poker section is good, but he mainly lists the advantages and disadvantages of playing online, which most of us already know. I took a quick look at the limit hold em section, but the only thing I really noticed so far was that it has you playing pretty tight up front preflop. I also read a chunk of the triple-draw lowball section, mainly cause that's a game that I have no clue about and because I've enjoyed reading Negreanu's articles on his web site. It looks like some great info, but what do I know about that game?

I think the "43 tips from Mike Caro University" section is GREAT. It is a summary of a variety of concepts, some simple but others fairly advanced, covering topics from bankroll management to tells (and of course, poker strategy). Each tip is shown in a little snapshot (it looks like this was a PowerPoint presentation initially) making it easy to simply check out the tips without reading each tip's description. This is a great way to reinforce some concepts that we all forget now and then.

I think I might check out the pot-limit omaha section next. But I don't know. There is so much information in this book. It's gonna take forever to absorb all of this.

BTW, how long did it take you guys to get the 10,000 action points for the book? Did you play limit or no-limit?

I'm just now looking at the software and I see that it's 9-handed tables and they only allow me to have two tables open at the same time.

It took me maybe three or four days of playing 2/4, 1/2, and .50/1, whenever there were games going. I also played sit and goes while I played the ring games. If you play sit and goes I believe it lets you have more tables open at one time. They have turbo SNGs which can become a total crapshoot, but I imagine if you're decent you still have a slight edge over the fish there and you rack up points real fast.

It's been dying for years.

Then again, maybe they just didn't want to show up Chip Reese by getting another 7-stud offer in, and maybe they had something bad happen with him so they couldn't or wouldn't include him or his 7-stud section in an update. Shame, his section in the original was damn good.

cab4656
12-04-2004, 03:12 AM
I think the reason that there isn't a plain old stud section is because there is one in the original Super System. It says somewhere in the new book that SS2 is not meant to replace SS, but to be a companion volume to it.

That makes sense too. The only games that are duplicated between the two books are limit hold em and no limit hold em. It makes sense to have a new limit section as the blind structure has changed since the original publication. However the new NLHE section is basically a reprint of the old NLHE section with a few tips and comments thrown in. I think Doyle just couldn't put out a book without a NLHE section.

Took me about 6 hours playing 3 tables of aggressive shorthanded 3-6 limit. The only reason I mention the aggressive bit is that I think the amount you bet/raise in a given pot increases the AP you get. Shorthanded obviously lends itself to clearing the bonus anyway by increasing the number of hands you will play/hr.

Once you have opened two tables rather than trying to open a third stick yourself on the waiting list for another and when you click to be taken there it will open. Not sure if this will work for more than three because I didn't try. I only founf this out by accident as I was on the waiting list for a few tables and was already playing two when it popped up about a thrd and I thought it was worth a go.

In the interest of complete information, here's exactly what Doyle says:

"So I sat down to revise this chapter, to bring it up to modern day standards. But you know what? I hadn't read my own advice for fifteen years, and when I sat down to examine it, I just kept nodding my head in agreement and muttering, "Damn, that's good!" ..... "I've added new thoughts and expanded some of the ideas, but the core concepts remain as valid and as profitable today as ever. So, here is my up-to-date advice, blending the previous tips and the tactics that will always with at no-limit hold'em with some new insights I hope will earn you extra money."

He goes on to say that while he had to change his game because other players knew what he was doing, the same strategy should be profitable for the reader.

the old NL section in SS remains the best thing ever written about the game. furthermore, as evidenced by a lot of posts on the past on 2+2, very few people who read the section actually understand what he is saying and advising to do, and instead they think doyle just bets every flop.

I am looking forward to seeing what improvements he has made, but I wouldn't expect complete innovation. so much of larger big bet games are player dependent, which is what I would assume doyle is writing about.

Someone asked if anyone else got this book yet. I did, as noted, 3 days or so ago. I have read some of it, and it is a good read so far. The Caro section is a great refresher section.

And I cleared the 10,000 points by playing 2 tables of 1/2 or 2/4 for someone who asked that.

I am irritated as hell by the way Doyle's Room has handled this.

First, they made it sound like the books were already available when they started advertising the room long ago.

Then the books were going to be available "soon/in a few weeks" for months.

Now some people have them, and I still have no idea if/when I get mine.

Jo-Host (15:23:11): we believe they will be sent off shortly
Jo-Host (15:23:26): please allow a few more weeks for the arrival
seaworthy (15:24:40): Several people have posted on the Internet that they received their books. But there's no way to know if and when mine has been sent? Also, I would be happy to pay extra for overnight delivery.
Jo-Host (15:35:28): it will not have been posted yet
Jo-Host (15:35:58): please contact in a week or so when we will have a list of names they will have been posted to
Jo-Host (15:36:14): sorry for the inconvenience

WHY have they never sent a single official e-mail about this? Good job, Doyle, I now loathe your poker room for jerking me around.

Just wanted to report that I have recieved my copy of Super System 2 from DoylesRoom today. Looks like it will be a good book; having only flipped through the pages quicky.

eBay is very tempting /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Better go for >$80 considering that's the value of "bonus" you cleared earning it.

I can spot the spelling error in "Teminator," but what is wrong with "Colour of Money"?

Hi!
I have not read SS1 yet, so now I wonder if it is better ( and possible ) to start with SS2 instead since that one is newer!

Is there something you should have read in SS1 before you read SS2?

Thanks!

Just that it's not the correct spelling for the title of the movie.

I just got my copy, and may I be the first to say Jen Harman's Limit HE section sucks in comparison to SSH and HEFAP.

Edit: It sucks more than Ken Warren's books too.

Edit #2: Trust me, I bought a Ken Warren book.

Sort of like how US newspapers refer to the British "Labor party"?

How would you describe the limit section? Basic info, wrong info, not detailed etc? That section is the main reason I want to buy the book so any thoughts appreciated.

I apologize. I was wrong. Call me a cynic. I thought it was a joke, and a rather played out joke at that. But look at all the unbelieving, probing, questioning posts. Others thought he was joking ass well. I actually got mine 2 days later. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It's hard to believe that it could be worse than Warren's, but maybe Harmen takes after Hellmuth?
