Incident on 57th Street, followed closely by Rosalita. Case closed.

Never heard of the first. Rosie is too easy an answer. In fact, it's not fair, so let's create a Rosie exception and call it the Emmit Rule.

Teneth Ave., is up there... as is Out in the Street

I've always had a affinity for "Cautious Man," and the whole "Tunnel of Love" album.

But really, any Bruce will do.

I think Rolling Stone had some sort of poll or something a few years back about the best rock and roll song ever. Born to Run came in first, and second was Dylan's song...forget the damn name, that really biting one about a jerk who came down in life ... you know the one...You've got a lot of nerver/To say you are my friend/When I was down/You just stood there, grinning...You just want/To be on the side that's winning.... Positively 4th Street? Ah, I was never good with Dylan.

Case reopened. Atlantic City. Case closed and sealed for all eternity in a concrete bunker twenty thousand metres underground.

Any Bruce is right. Thanks for reminding me. Time for some Bruce.

I couldn't possibly pick a single best Bruce song. Here are some of my favorites:

Born To Run
Thunder Road
Racing in the Streets
Prove it all Night
The River
Atlantic City
Open All Night
Bobby Jean
Dancing in the Dark
The whole Tunnel of Love album
Better Days
Part Man, Part Monkey
Streets of Philadelphia
Secret Garden
Gave it a Name
Back in your Arms
The New Timer
Blood Brothers
Paradise

Secret Garden is a masterpiece. Just ask Nils Lofgren.

Immediate disqualification for a list containing no pre-Born to Run songs.

His pre born-to-run songs simply weren't as good. He developed a lot as a songwriter after those albums.

With that said, I have a fondness for these songs:

Growing Up
Thundercrack

There is one song on a Steel Mill boot I liked, but can't remember the name of it.

The funny thing is, that's not the first bunny with a pancake on its head photo I've ever seen.

I saw the film "The Crossing Guard" years ago and it had at some point a great song, with a moody intro, that was just perfect for a scene. I tracked it down as being a Bruce Springsteen song, but it was only recently that I got hold of it, because I could not locate it in any official release. (Maybe I did not look properly; I think I did.)

Apparently it was a throw-away track that Springsteen recorded when "fumbling around with a new drumn machine at the studio". Maybe so, but is one of the best separation and longing songs I ever heard.

It's on the Essential Bruce Springsteen collection, in the "bonus CD".
