Hi all,

Quasi-experienced hold 'em player seeks first book on Omaha Hi-Lo (or just Omaha Hi). Have read TOP, so I'm already familiar with general poker concepts.

Thanks,

Tom

They would probably have some good suggestions on the Other Poker forum (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=otherp) so i'd strongly suggest asking there as well.

Tenner and Krieger's is the best I've seen so far. I love the chart about how to play the flop with different combinations of draws, but then i'm a big fan of presenting info in tables.

Cappelletti's book is decent.

I've found Zee's book profoundly disappointing compared to the rest of 2+2's output. First of all, half the book is about Stud/8 which admittedly i knew going in. Second, i'm not a big fan of 2+2's old "question and answer" format which they used to include to merely restate the content in Q&A form. Third, Zee's book is largely intended for medium-limit games, and I play low limits, but again I knew this going in. All that said, the 15 pages or so of basic concepts are extremely good, so if you could borrow the book instead of paying $30 for it I highly recommend that section.. (Funny that on the 2+2 forum I feel like i need to devote more space to critiquing the home team.) /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tenner/Krieger is sort of the WLLHE of Omaha/8; that's what you'll want to start with.

Ray Zee's book would be more like the HPFAP of Omaha/8: not really an introductory book. Cappelletti's book would be, I don't know, maybe the Gary Carson of Omaha/8 except it's not written as well.

Also, Phil Hellmuth's chapter on Omaha/8 isn't bad, although it's pretty basic. And there are some good Omaha/8 articles at Steve Badger's (http://www.playwinningpoker.com/) and Annie Duke's (http://www.playwinningpoker.com/) websites.

Yah i thouroughly enjoyed Hellmuth's O/8 section. Basically he takes four or five "styles" that other players use and tells you about them, so that you can make up your mind. If you have time, go to a Barnes and Noble and just read those 20-30 pages.
