Down to the final table of a live 85 player tourney. 7 left. I am the short stack in SB with 5500 after posting. Blinds 1000/2000, antes 200.

All fold to me in SB. I do the math....pot is 4400.

I have 3-8 suited.

BB is reasonable player from what I can tell. He has me covered, with approx. 11,000 chips.

By my math, if I push and he calls, I'm getting 7900/5500 or about 3/2 odds on what is likely not worse than a 60/40 shot. Plus, there is a slight chance he will fold.

I pushed. He thought about it and called w/ TJ.

Did I play this right?

I guess I have very slim folding equity here, as he's getting 3/1 on the call, nonetheless, with all that dead money out there, isn't this a routine play?

even though he's getting 3:1 on his call, he will likely fold much more than you might expect since it's for 1/2 his chips. In general, I like this play. However, the larger the stack, the less I like it. The more folding equity I have, the better it is, i think.
