View Full Version : I keep hearing that the 5-10 on Party is not a soft game ... why?

I suppose I could move down to 3-6, or even up to 15-30 (I have another post about this in the general HE forum), but I am wondering what your opinions are about the 5-10 games. Are they really not very good? Would it be better to move down to 3-6 perhaps, from a purely financial perspective?

I don't really like shorthanded play, and I am not sure I would be any good at it, but I am a good full ring player. Why do keep saying that the PP 5-10 is a bad full ring game?

One explaination I have heard is that because there are 6max tables for the 5/10 limit, anyone who is loose will go there. Thus, the 5/10 full ring games on Party have a higher number of tight players.

But I haven't ever played 5/10 on Party, so...

At 15/30 you will run into a lot of player with a lot of money to spew, 5/10 is more likely to be your typical 2+2 player I believe.

I was a professional daytrader for about 2 years doing ok. I made enough to pay my bills and my manager saw I was a decent trader and many times encouraged me to increase my share size. I never seemed to be able to make that adjustment because the swings were really hard emotionally the bigger I traded.

I imagine that's the way it is with a lot of good players at 5/10. Hard to stomach the swings at 15/30. Also, lack of an adequate bankroll. I just hope I can adjust well in my quest to one day 4-table 15/30.

If it's true then that 5-10 full games are generally harder, what is the best thing for a player who is looking to move up through the limits on Party and skins to do, when they get to $3,000 and are bankrolled for 5-10 full? It's $3k more until properly rolled for 10-20, a lot of bets and time at 3-6. And 300BB is not big enough a roll for 5-10 6 max.

Not really looking for concrete advice, because it obviously doesn't exist. More of a what would you do, or recommend to a friend?

Yeah, I'm kind of wondering this too, as I'm just starting to play 5-10 now. I would like to move up to 15-30 at some point, so It'd be nice to know what people think is the best path to do this. I've only played a few thousand hands at 5-10, so I have no idea yet, but I'm guessing I could make more there than I could at 3-6. So I'm hoping I'll reach a 15-30 BR sooner by playing 5-10. And if 5-10 is that much tougher that I'm making less than I would at 3-6, then at least I'll get good exp at playing tougher games, so hopefully that'll make me better if/when I play 15/30

Learn how to play SH. I don't know about at 5/10, but 1/2 6max compared with full 1/2 was a goldmine. I have heard similar things about 5/10 6max. If you're hesitant to start playing a SH game with no experience at your current level, you could try out 10k hands at 1/2 6max, or find 5/10 tables that are closer to 5-6 people and leave when the table fills up.

I've played a lot of both the 1-2 and 5-10 6 maxes and, I assure you, they are a romper room. But $3k is too little to play the 5-10 6 max.

I guess I'm realizing that the answer to my question is probably to hit that 3-6 for an extra long time. My goal is to be bankrolled for 4 tabling 5-10 6 max, I think 3-6 is the best way to get there.

Play the Bad Beat Jackpot tables when it the jackpot is greater than 100K. You will see some of the most horrible $5/10 players on earth. When the Jackpot is low, stick to the 6 max tables. There you will find the 2nd most horrible $5/10 players on earth.
