Anyone have any idea what they do with all of the chips used in the WSOP? Seems like an utter waste to destroy them. Along those same lines, anyone know if Paulson is getting back into the public sector?

I know a few were released to collecting circles and sell for $50+/chip. As for the old clay ones [which they stopped using this year]... who knows? They're missing out on a fortune by not selling these things.

Yes, paulson is coming back. Read the past week of posts to find the post.

For some reason I thought they let the winner(s) keep the chips. Call me crazy....

Seems like a better idea than just destroying them. I guess we'll have to leave this one to Raymer.

On a side note, when I was in Vegas this fall a dealer at the Horseshoe said he bought a ton of chips when they shut it down over the tax situation. Think their is any truth to this? What a set that must be......

That one is quite possibly true, but do not quote me on that one. The old 'Shoe had to cover that money somehow. That seems like a great way to do it. Just sell off stuff, lol. [censored], they sold off the single and double deck games and any good gambling they had left. Welcome to the Harrashoe!

Impossible. They used the same designs for periods of nearly 10 years [the recently retired (early 1990s-2003) clay $25s and $100s notably]

No offence, but I don't see how that would make it impossible. It may make it more unlikely, but not impossible.

I could swear I've read here at 2+2 that they let the people take the chips. Maybe that was a year they switched designs, I don't know.

I see something to your logic, but I disagree with the absoluteness of it. Maybe we should put it inot "pot odds" format....

They would not give chips to the winners as they could easily reintroduce them into other events later that year or the next year. The only chips in play at the end of the event are $5000+. Say the winner makes it to day 3 the following year and throws a couple of them onto his stack before they go in the bag at the end of day 2...

I understand that logic (as I stated) - still doesn't mean they don't do it. Maybe they go through the hassle of drilling them. Heck, they give the winner millions of dollars, maybe they give them the chips too.

Once again, I thought I remember reading here that they did. Anyone? Buehler?

That would be sooooooo many chips. And you would think that some winner would have eBayd some of them or something.

If I just won a ton of dough playing poker against the best in the world, I think I'd pass on trying to sell the chips they gave me on ebay....kinda not worth the effort.

Well, you might a few years down the road, after you've frittered away all your winnings on fast living and high stakes table games, and you're desperate for money and backers.
