Not a topic I've seen handled here before so I'll start the thread.

I'm in the process of rebuilding my bankroll after I withdrew everything about 6 weeks ago to focus on grad school applications and GREs, etc. Applications are now basically complete and I've started playing online again, rebuilding my roll by playing 1/2 limit, full ring. I've been pretty successful and have worked up to an online roll of about $900.

The problem is that I want to move up to 2/4 as soon as possible because the rake really kills you at 1/2. $900 isn't a full roll for 2/4, obviously, but it is 300BB at a $1.50/$3.00 game.

So the question is: is playing 2 tables of 1/2 and 2 tables of 2/4 "equivalent" to playing $1.50/$3.00? I can't imagine that 2/4 is significantly different than 1/2; in fact, last time I was building roll I played about 9k hands at 2/4 so I've played the game before--it's not like its going to surprise me.

Has anyone else played multipled limits simultaneously? Anything noteworthy that I should look out for?

Thanks,

The Doc

just my 2 cents, but i think $900 is sufficient for a $2/4 full ring bankroll. not much in the way of swings in that game.

cheers!

the 300BB "guideline" would still be in effect if you were playing only 1 table of 2/4.

if you are a winning player not relying on poker to pay all the monthly bills, which i assume you arent with a 900 dollar roll, you can go ahead and "take a shot" at 2-4. Just set a stopgap at like 300 dollar loss where you will move back down. Also, if you dont have accounts at all the "20% on 500 deposit" do those, tremendously usefull. Rakeback is cool too, but if you already have accounts kind of difficult to obtain now.

If you have a std. dev of X dollars in a table of 2-4 and Y dollars in a table of 1-2, you have a variance of X^2 + Y^2 dollars in one table of each. This is a result of the definiton of variance. Standard deviation is sqrt(X^2+Y^2)

The std. dev. is going to be weighted to the higher limit, even if the SD is the same # of BB at each limit.

If you are a winning player in 2-4, sit with 900. You have more than a Kelly bankroll, and can resize down to 1-2 if you lose and this is truly the only money your willing to spend on poker.

Play he 2-4 and don't be such a pansy. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

You know, if your four table , throw in a 2-4 table with say 3 1-2 tables.

You need a float to sit 2-4 comfortably?

MarkL was nicer than I would have been about why the reasons you cited for playing split limits were silly.

If you're willing to step down again if you hit a bad patch, you have enough to just move up.

play 2/4, you'll be fine. If you drop below 150 BB than drop down.

if you know you can beat the game, you can just take a shot at 2/4. if you drop 50 BB, then you move down until you make it back to 900
