I didn't really know if this was supposed to go to the Books/Software forum but this felt better /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway, I am a total newbie and wanting to learn something about sports betting. What books are recommended? Any other pointers on betting? Fluctuations, things to think about etc?

Cheers /images/graemlins/spade.gif

The key to sportsbetting is limiting the edge you are giving up to the house. For example, progressive parlays have a higher house edge than parlays. Also, proposition bets have a very high house edge. Odds on proposition bets are especially low following the completion of a particular season, months prior to the beginning of the next season. Particularly, if you were to make a bet on the 2005 World Series Champions, you should wait till the the beginning of the season when the odds improve in the better's favor. Many of these tendencies exist. Remember the more bets you make, no matter the edge, as long as it is against you, the more you are giving up to the house.

actually the key to sportsbetting is OVERCOMING the house edge, limiting it would be one of the ways to help overcome it /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sublime is right on with the Stanford Wong book, but there are also select chapters worth reading in the 2+2 books, Getting The Best Of It and Gambling For A Living.
