I'm not quite sure what to make of the flop check-raise.

You're trying to get heads up with the maniac, ok. But what hands is the calling station holding that you want him to fold that realistically he *will* fold?

He's not folding any hand that beats you right now, that's for sure. You said yourself that he's a CALLING STATION. That means he likes to call...one bet, two bets, it doesn't matter. And do you really want him to fold any broadway-ish cards that you probably dominate? And what if maniac 3-bets?
