Ahhhhh, I love variance (assuming sarcasm detectors are on). I'm sure lots of people have their own examples - here's mine:

Party/Empire $215 NL SNGs

11/23 - 11/28

158 SNGs

1st - 12
2nd - 9
3rd - 17
4th - 25
5th - 34
6th - 26
7th - 18
8th - 9
9th - 4
10th - 4

net = -$9,770

11/1 - 11/3

109 SNGs

1st - 19
2nd - 19
3rd - 17
4th - 12
5th - 12
6th - 12
7th - 4
8th - 8
9th - 6
10th - 0

net = +$13,765

I guess the moral of the story is that the long run for SNGs is very long indeed (with lots of "fun" in between).

Okay, got the semi-rant out of the system. Breathe...

Gramps --

Do you feel like you made any particularly bad plays during this period, or was it merely ('merely') variance?

Maybe a couple of bad plays more than average over this stretch (like 2-3 of "what the f--- was I thinking there?" probably brought on in part by frustration). But for the most part, I've done exactly the same things that I always do. Sometimes you run red hot from the bubble on, sometimes you run ice cold. The two stretches I posted are my best and worst over the course of about 3,500 SNGs at the $215 level.

There's always the danger of being on "subtle tilt" where you start making bad plays that you're not aware of/are in denial about (calling too many all-ins, getting too passive on the bubble with your pushes after being on a string of always running into the monster hand, etc.). I certainly fell victim to it after my first couple of bad runs...but I've been through close to 10 downswings > $5,000 now, so I'd like to think I'm at the point where it doesn't negatively affect my game much (and I'm aware of how it can affect it negatively, and can do a better job of avoiding that).

Sh-t happens, how well you deal with it determines in large part how good of a player you are in the long run. (At least that's what I try to keep telling myself)

Wow, thanks for posting!! Out of your 3500 SnGs at $215 what is your overall profit approx? and Profit/game?

Makes me kinda look like a fool. I just posted a bad run as well. I am complaining about a 30 buy in swing at the 30s and you have a 45 buy in swing.

I still think you cant compare the 2 levels.
