Just curious if anyone has bought this particular table or if anyone knows the actual quality.

http://www.5stardeal.com/deals/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=10-HT1

I know it's currently sold out but I'd like to know if it's worth getting.

I am not sure of the quality of these tables. There are some good ones on ebay that people make such as this one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=35749&item=6134084 615&rd=1

and here is the same one that you were looking at

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=35749&item=6132723 590&rd=1

you can build a decent poker table for around $150 if you want to spend the time making it. If so, check out the poker table building forum at
http://www.scottkeen.com/forum/

Below is a table I built and it cost me around $150 in materials.

I dont know if I would say "easy" but I would say it was rewarding. If you don't build a rail its easy. The rail is a pain in the butt to make if you want it perfect.

But rewarding as seen above. I think that tan rail is growing on me. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

the problem is I live in a townhouse so the one I get HAS to be able to fold up and be put away.

Nice table! Is that the diamond-pattern felt? Dare I ask how much and where you found it? Any close-up pics? (sorry for the topic detour...)

AgentJack -

That is probably THE nicest table I've seen that is a DIY. The thing that separates your table from the others is that the table rail appears to be absolutely seamless. That has got to be really hard to do. The felt pattern is very sharp as well.

All you need some cup holders /images/graemlins/smile.gif j/k its perfect.

Nice Job!

You don't want to know how much I paid for the fabric. Ok, I will tell you. $3 a yard! So it only cost $9 for the fabric. The Tan vinyl was only $2 a yard. I found both items in a clearance section at my local Upholstery Fabric shop. The vinyl is real nice also. It is the same quality as some black vinyl I bought for $12 a yard for my first table.

The one I pointed you to on ebay folds in half.

I have never seen this table in person, but it looks like a good deal.

Thanks. I wanted a poker table and figured I would try and build my own and it came out pretty good. I had to unstaple the rail a few times in certain places to get the wrinkles all out and restaple it but it was worth it. I am in the process of building another table and the only thing left is putting on the vinyl (which is the hardest part).

Could we possibly get some shots of the underneath? /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I will try and get a shot. Here is one that I already had but it does not have the rail on it.

That table is awesome Agent Jack. I want to build one in the near future, I was wondering if you'd post your plans or just an approximate materials/cost list.
Thanks

I am acutally working on a page that shows most of the construction. I am working on a table right now and just have to put the vinyl on the rail (the foam is already done).

Do you have a padding under the material?

AgentJack
11-28-2004, 03:03 PM
Yes there is padding under the material.

It is far from done, but this is going to be a tutorial on how to make a table.

Just an FYI, you might want to make a home poker table 4'x6'. The standard long skinny tables are for games where you have a pro dealer. If you are on the end of the table, it is murder to deal to the other end. Speed fabric from Kardwell is nice because it allows cards to slide and is spill resistant!

The guy that hosts my regular game, just bought two of those tables. I think they are reasonable quality; very good for the price though. They are sturdy enough, the padding and felt are very nice and seem durable.

I must say that I think an 84" table is to cramped for 10 players; why cant they just use the whole peice of plywood and go 96"?

On our 8' table we just rotate the deal amongst the 2 or 4 players seated closest to the center. Everyone else is a shuffler.

I bought the exact table you referenced from www.pokerboard.com (http://www.pokerboard.com), and it cost $370 total (including S/H). The table is pretty nice, constructed of decent materials. It has speed cloth and is relatively light (like 70 lbs), which is nice. 10 people do fit, although a little cramped. Only complaints are that it is not water resistant (I should have scotchguarded before playing on it), and that the built-in cup holders are of the shallow variety (i.e., they do not hold 12 oz. cans or bottles very sturdily).

Needing another table, I decided to build my own from scratch. The total cost of the materials was about $175, and the quality is MUCH better than the prefab table. My homemade table is a full 96X48 inches, and I was able to include a wooden racetrack with built in cup holders (the deep variety) as well. Yes, the rail takes a bit of work, but assuming you can find 54 inch wide vinyl, you can cover the rail in one seamless piece.

In summary, if you can get the necessary tools (jigsaw, drill with hole bit, orbital sander) and materials, IMO it is MUCH better to build your own table. I'd never built anything in my life before building my table, but after borrowing the tools from friends and working on it for week, found the result extremely rewarding.

That is why I have a wide oval table. It's 4'x6' which means plenty of room for everyone but you don't have to worry about dealing 8' across a standard table. Those things are designed to save space in a casino. Do yourself a favor and use a circle/fat oval.

My regular homegame is on this same table. I thinks it's an excellent quality table and a great price. I couldn't believe it when I asked the guy that hosts how much. He paid around $350 for it. He has a dining room table about the same size and doesn't want to move it. He special ordered the table w/o the folding legs and stores it when not in use. Two people can easily carry it. I was especially pissed because 5-6 years ago I bought an octagon paded table with folding legs for $500+. I think the recent surge in games has really brought prices down.

Sure you could build one as mentioned. Personally, I know it would be more trouble than it's worth. Plus I'd probably lose a few fingers in the process. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm telling you...I have never built ANYTHING in my life, and I was able to build a table that is 1000X better looking and playing than this one. And I own both of them, so I see the difference every day. To quote Rob Schneider...."YOU CAN DOOOOOOOOOO IT!"

Keeping the deal near the center of an 8' table, the furthest you have to pitch a card is about 4.5', no biggie.

Is there enough room for 10 players on a 4'x6' oval or are you talking about an 8 player game?

wacki

There is room for 10 people on a 4'x6' table. Do the math if you have to...

Circumference of rounded part
2xpixr = 2 x 3.14 x 3 = 12.56 feet

Extra length = 2' x 2' = 4 feet

12.56 + 4 = 16.56 feet total
or 1.65 feet per person

That's 19.8 inches per person. So it's a bit tight with 10 people (I think 22 is recommended) but it's still seems comfortable to me. I just use chairs that either don't have armrests or have small armrests. You can adjust if you want, but I'm a big fan of the fat oval. Plus, it's that much easier to see everyones face!
