I arrive home from a poker session at 5:30 PM and an hour later my fourteen year old son leaves for his.

I got invited to a home tourney here in Worcester by a fellow 2+2er and I was the old man of the group by on average 20 years. Fit right in, though, I think, unless they were just being nice. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Andy,

You are getting old, take my word for it. I'm sick of kids--and I'm sick of reading their writing. While you guys get to play poker and stuff like that, I've been at work all day today and all day yesterday. Some long weekend. Only have about forty papers to go. Down from seventy yesterday morning. End of whine, but, hell, since we're both 51, I thought you'd listen.

I went to the casino past 2 nights. both times I am fairly certain the 2nd youngest person at my table was 25+ years older than me.

I think 2 of them didn't like me to begin with becausse I was so young. But everyone else got along with me just fine.

Oh and I understand your pain about grading papers. I taught physics lab for the past 2.5 years. 60 papers 3+ pages a week. Plus doing my own school work.

I'm currently restudying geometry and Spanish so as to help the 14-year old poker player in his daytime pursuits. He currently has a "C" in both.

Snakehead once told me most players at the table aren't worred about me because I'm an old white guy. And he himself was recently chastized for being an "old f*ck," which has become my endearing nickname for him.

Andy, that's really good that you try to help your son like that. My parents did nothing when I struggled in school. They cared when I brought home a bad grade, but they didn't care enough to help me.

Heheh. Mine were the same way after a fashion, being very disappointed when I got a B. They expected A's and that's really all they wanted to hear or think about the matter. I always felt it was up to me to uphold the family name, or something.

That is one cool thing about the touchy-feely crap that has gotten into parenting. So much of parents getting totally squishy soft about their kids and refusing to discipline or take responsibility for them is really wrong, but actively caring about their kids' grades and being willing to make sacrifices of their own to do something about it is a huge step up from the way it was when I was a kid.

Anybody else wondering if that 14 year old son was going to Commerce? Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't notice/ care.

We spent Thanksgiving out of town at my in laws, our nephew has a 2 year old baby boy, who is as cute as heck and full of energy. Anyway my wife gets the bright idea of suggesting that our nephew's baby (my great nephew?) spend the night and next day with Great Gran'ma and Auntie. Well let me tell you that 2 year old wore us all out, keeping us up until midnight and then up again at 6 in the morning. I can only say that I (and I think Auntie also) was thankful when his mum picked him up on Friday evening.

I just assumed. You mean some people start poker sessions in the morning and quit before sunset?

If it makes you feel better, I go to class on Tuesday and thursdays, and have the rest of the week off to sleep in and play poker. Screw the man.

You know this is 30 minutes late for the Senior discount at Luby's right?
