Stars $30 multi. 20 people left in, and the money goes up at 18th place. Button has not been particularly aggressive up to this point.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t3000, ante t150 (7 handed)

MP1 (t30892)
MP2 (t47327)
CO (t98797)
Button (t51856)
Hero (t56291)
BB (t22410)
UTG (t19121)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 9/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 9/images/graemlins/spade.gif.
UTG calls t3000, 3 folds, Button raises to t10150, Hero ...?

A big raise in front from an only slightly smaller stack, two short stacks to act after me, and t18700 in the pot. Hero's action?

Your position is going to be horrible after the flop. Button must surely know UTG will go all in or call with pretty much any playable two here, else why would he limp for 1/6th of his stack. You are at almost 20BB and have no need to gamble here. Easy fold for me.

If button was open raising here it would be a lot closer.

With UTG open limping with only 6 BB's in his stack, it looks like he wants action (or is stupid).

BB looks like he has a hand so putting him on a standard range of hands for this move you are usually either a slight favorite or a big dog.

I'd get out of the way here.

Thanks for the responses. I did fold. I believed it was the right move, but I agonized over it. Two weeks ago I would have called in a flash, but I'm developing a lot more patience. I just want to be sure I'm exercising that patience at the right time.

Button folded out the field and took a nice pot. By the end of the night, third place let me forget about this pot that got away.

I am amazed UTG folded. Horrible play by him to limp with 1/6th his stack, then fold to a raise?
