Was at a B&M casino and they had progressive jackpots for the card room where they take an additional rake out of the pot. I am now seeing this more on-line (PP). My thoughts are that paying a higher rake for something that I will probably never win is a bad, bad deal (if I want a lottery ticket, I can buy that separate)...then again, I imigane that there would be a few more less expierenced players in these rooms / sites.

Thoughts?

Even IF there are a few bad players at the jackpot tables the extra EV wouldn't make up for the extra rake.

I have no facts to prove this, just an opinion.

A more careful game selection on the regular tables is probably a better option.

Don't forget you also have some jackpot equity. I wonder if the players are really that much worse at the jackpot tables, though.

Just because you will probably never win the jackpot doesn't mean that it can't be +EV. Lottery tickets are a bad bet because the chances of winning are worse than the "pot odds" you are getting, not because you'll probably never win.

Having said that, I'm not sure you have enough jackpot equity to make up for the drop, although I don't know how to calculate it.

The players on the BBJ tables on Party Poker are pretty bad. I play these tables when the jackpot is around $100,000 or higher. The jackpot part is just gravy. BTW, I've provided the bad beat to win the jackpot once ($15,000) and got a piece of another jackpot ($5000). Both of these happened this month.
