What were you doing here? Complete waste of 1000 in my opinion. You should have bluffed the flop for 500, and if he called then you are in check/fold mode. (As it turns out, he probably wouldn't have called anyway) This check/call business with K high is just a complete drain on your chips.

I think this is OK, but the problem is the amount. He often isn't going to fold for 1680 more.
The time to push was with the A4.

The secret to headsup is that at the 250/500 level and above its pretty much a crapshoot. A lot of the time when the opponents fold to your raises they're making bad errors. Look at the fold you made with JTo earlier. Against this opponent that was fine as he is rather tight, but against an opponent who pushes things like J9s, like I'm advising you to do, it's a mistake.

This is interesting. I was limping so much because in the past I've always pushed the hands you suggested pushing, and I feel like I always get trapped by a better hand. Out of frustration, I started trying to play more postflop, and the result was the nonsense you see above. But anyway, if you push every Kx and Ax, won't your opponent just wait until he has a good kicker and then call?

And one other thing: what do you do against people like this guy, who pretty much never bluff? Foolish as it is, I have more trouble with these solid players than with LAGs. Maybe that's because I keep trying to bluff them when they have it.

Maybe this is just me, but when I'm this low in chips I start to bank on midpair holding up... I'd give up free cards here trying to check raise or at worst just all in on the turn or river, which looks desperate enough for a crying call perhaps. He must have had garbage to limp instead of just forcing you allin PF, so he's probably either drawing pretty slim already or has you dominated... Maybe he'll try to bluff you off or hit lower pair later on, and you can get him to call with a bad holding then.

Otherwise, I agree with the other suggestions mentioned so far. As for the K5o hand, pushing is a great option, but I might have felt frisky enough to min-raise PF "to take the lead". Then with a paired flop I might suspect K high is good and push... I'm probably being way too results oriented here though.

They have to be dealt good kickers first. They don't get dealt dominating matchups that often.

However, let's say your nightmare does happen. Say with that A6hh that you limped, your opponent gets dealt AsQc. (By the way, if you limp and he raises allin, are you really folding?).

Your EV is 0.313. The total pot will be 7040 chips. 0.313*7040 = 2203 chips is your expectation. You put in 3220 chips to raise so you lose around 1000 chips. The blinds are 900 chips! In other words, if he folds once to your allin raise and then calls with a dominating hand, your loss is a tiny 100 chips.

He doesn't have to be dominating you - if you run it again with Kh 6h, your loss is only 400 chips, so that one successful steal more than double pays for running into this hand.

Let's look at another situation: You get caught stealing with Js 9s. Let's say he calls with Ac 6h. If he doesn't make calls like this you're going to run over the top of him.

Note how huge your EV is here. In fact, 44 vs AT, say, has a larger EV than Ac 6h does here, and that situation is commonly referred to as a "coinflip". 7040 * .477 is 3358 chips. In other words, suppose you KNOW your opponent has Ac 6h and is going to call. Then raising allin still has a positive expectation, because of the size of the blinds.

The lesson is - aside from overpairs, no hand really beats any other hand by very much preflop. When the blinds are big, steal steal steal and don't worry about getting caught. You might feel like an idiot when you run into a dominating hand, but remember the maths above. Those situations just arent going to pay for the stolen blinds in the long run.

Playing against guys who never bluff is a cinch. Just steal hiis blind heaps and fold whenever he raises. When he limps in, don't raise without a pretty good hand.
