Loose Aggressive player Heads Up KILLING ME

I would consider my self an above average poker player, whose main problem is short periods of tilt. I am generally very aggressive. I usually excell in No Limit Heads up, but I have had some serious problems in limit heads up games, and I just lost my entire bankroll against a Loose/ EXTREMELY aggressive opponent. I have played him once before and he took 500 dollars from me. He said he was drunk both times, and I believe him, because his play gets proggressivly worse as he says he drinks more.

The first time I played him, I thought he got incredibly lucky. It seemed like he was hitting every two pair, runner runner straight he had, and it seemed all hands he was dominated in preflop, he won. This time he took almost $1000 dollars from me. We played almost 1500 hands together, and it still seems like he was getting crazy luck. But I realize he must have been doing something right, or more likely, I must have been misplaying his VERY straightfoward style. I know some mistakes are very obvious that I made, like bluffing when I should not have (a little TILT) and such, but what I need is a solid style to play him with.

Let me describe his play:

- When I called the small blind, he would would almost always raise the big blind, regardless of his hand.

-He rarely called his small blind, raising most of the time, and rarely folding.

-He almost always bet the flop, especially if he raised preflop. If I reraised the flop, he almost never folded. He sometimes folded on the turn and river, but when he did so, he usually did not even have a Face card.

Call: 5 percent

Preflop:
Raise percentage: 68 percent
Call(usually calling my bet): 22 percent
Check: 2 percent
Fold: 8 percent

FLop:
Bet or raise: 61 percent
Call: 21 percent
Check: 3 percent
Fold: 8 percent

Turn:
Bet/raise: 41 percent
Call: 24 percent
Check: 10 percent
Fold: 5 percent

River:
Bet/Raise: 45 percent
Call: 20 percent
Check: 29 percent
Fold: 6 percent

He didnt fold his hand all the way to the river 78 percent of the time.

Heres a key statistic. His Win Without showdown percentage preflop was 33. Flop W w/o SD percentage was 25. Turn:16 River:10.



My statistics were different. I saw the flop 66 percent of the time. I went to a showdown 60 percent of the time, but only won at the showdown 40 percent of the time. I raised preflop 28 percent of the time. After I raised preflop I bet or raised on the flop 47 percent of the time, called 13 percent, and checked 31 percent, check raised 4 percent. There was no action 3 percent of the time, and I folded .5 percent of the time.

I did not fold 60 percent of the time, but when I did 25 percent was preflop, 7 preflop, and around 2.5 on the river and turn.
I tried playing looser preflop, didnt do anything. When I had a pretty good hand when it was my Big Blind and Button, I would usually reraise his raise as a positional play, because if he was not the last person to bet preflop it would be more likely he would check the flop. WHAT CAN I DO TO BEAT THIS KIND OF PLAYER?? He is predictable, raising with any hand, like 85 offsuit, 29suited, and such, and it seems like these hands beat my K4's and Q10's that I call him with very often.

This kind of post is completely pointless. Unformatted hand histories are bad enough on their own, without ridiculously lengthy ones like this. I doubt anyone has the time to go through more than a handful of these, and particularly as it seems you cannot control your own play. Sort out your ego/tilt/emotional problems first before asking for tactical advice.

And regardless of what you say, "Beatyourwife" is a repugnant and highly offensive handle and your choice of it says a great deal about you as a person. You clearly belong to the "I'm so clever with my handle and the way I put people on tilt" brigade. So clever indeed, that you are too smart to control your own emotional state and your gameplay.

The guy you played was not drunk, he outplayed you, and outsmarted you with a cheap trick. His stats are far more in line with those considered optimal by most experienced HU players, your stats by contrast suggest you are weak-tight as far as HU goes.

Your opponent is no shark, but his style is decent for headsup. Yours is not.

You're too tight preflop, don't respect each additional raise enough (resulting in some horrible reraises), don't seem to understand the basics of aggressive poker (resulting in giving some absurd freecards), and didn't take advantage of any of your opponents betting patterns.

Don't play headsup poker again.

I'm NOT a heads-up expert, although I think I've held my own the few times I've played HU online. I took a look at just a few of the hands, and I'd say you DO have a bit of a problem. He's not hitting miracle cards or getting more than a fair share of luck...you're making dumb plays.

Chasing gutshots against raises.
Calling preflop raises with lousy cards (84s?)
Called a raise on the turn with nothing but a A kicker to a paired board.
Called him down with pocket K8, no board match, all the way to river.
Did not play aggressively enough with pocket JJ; just kept calling his bets.

I think your main problem is that you're emotionally committed to beating this player, and you're letting that keep you involved in hands far longer than you should. He's not sucking out on you...you're staying too long, trying to suck out on him.

I haven't read your post closely (sorry), but I do have one comment: Don't play heads-up at 3/6. The rake will eat you alive.

Also, change your handle. I can't imagine it really gives you any advantage.

OK. Im confused. Some people are telling me to player tighter, other people looser. The reason that my stats preflop are so low is because he raised every single hand, so I had to fold my BB a lot of the time.

Also, people are telling me to be more aggressive. I can understand this on hands like JJ, but he is not one to be bluff, and he often called me down with like Jack high.

And should I or should I not be calling him down with hands like Ace High? I know he has random cards most of the time, and a lot of the time its good, unless his 96 hits.

Take a look at some of my later hands, because I think i played at least a little bit different then.

My main dillema is I call him with something like Q8 preflop, the board comes blanks most of the time, he bets, I have to fold, I cant raise (he'll call). How do I approach this situation, which took a lot of money from me?

Also, I'm not going to be playing heads up at 3/6 anymore, our game took up almost 300 bucks in rake. Is the rake beteer at different limits?

Pacific has tables for heads-up play with a reduced rake, and Stars has heads-up sit-n-go's with a reduced entry fee. Also, at the higher limits the rake isn't quite as brutal.

the MUCH more important question you should be asking yourself is "What limits can I play with what bankroll?"

I know I need better bankroll managment, but this guy would only play 3/6 (Still not a good idea to play him by any means). But that is for a different discussion, please respond to my last post.

[/ QUOTE ] Fold with the absolute junk like 25o and the like, reraise with almost all hands you are going to play and just call with some of the hands. You cant make a lot of preflop laydown or you will bleed to death. Also the RAKE and game selection becomes very important when playing HU limit.

Looks to me like you're BEATING YOURSELF!
You're scared of this guy--and assume whenever you don't hit the flop that he has..perhaps you have a math reason for this..but you look psyched out to me.
I WOULDN'T fold an A in the hole just cause he throws a small bet out...you say yourself he does it ALL the time--so just play to the river with him-my guess is that you'll win a lot more...your hole cards in general should be better than his--cause you're pickier about what u play.
