I'm thinking about getting my nephew a PS2 game for Christmas, since he's getting a console this year.

He's like 10 or 11 years old, so something like GTA is out of the question. I know he has a Game Cube, and is into the role-playing fantasy type of games, like the Zelda's and Final Fantasy types.

Any recommendations for me? It doesn't have to be something new to the market either, a classic PS2 "best seller" that might be a little less expensive than a new game would be good too.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Final Fantasy X is a great game, maybe the best in the series...it does have some sexually suggestive scenes, but they are infrequent and tame. Only $20 as a Greatest Hit.

My 10 year old son mostly wants the sports games but he does like the Harry Potter games for PS2.

Thanks for the recommendation. I read a bunch of review on this, and it sounded like a good choice. Was only $15 on Amazon. One gift down, a bunch to go...

The Wild Arms series is also pretty good for RPG fans. Not quite as engrossing as Final Fantasy, but not as "edgy" and less complicated. Probably good for kids.

Super Puzzle Fighter is a great game and you can find it for cheap at a 2nd hand store.

Is the new Tony Hawk Underground out of the question? Being that Bam is a big part of it now, there may be some questionable stuff in it. But the Tony Hawk series have always been great games, and with the Underground ones, the single-player modes are really good.

Great pickup with FFX. What about Metroid Prime for the 'cube? Greatest hits title, probably around $20, a touch difficult (For a 22-year old, anyway, an 11 year-old could likely kick my ass), but well worth playing. Less story/More twitch than Zelda, but someone who liked one will probably like the other.

Yeah, I did that part. Trying to figure out if you're recommending this or not, it looks very strange.

Super Monkey Ball or Animal Crossing for the Game Cube, both are non-violent and super fun.

For PS2, Astro keeps talking about this Katamari Damacy game so it must be good /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

All 3 games are $20 new.

Does he like sports games? All of the ESPN 2K5 games are $19.95, and very good.

I love the Tiger Woods games also, but I know not everyone likes golf games. '04 is really good, and now that '05 has come out I'm sure it's cheap.
