Based on critical acclaim, this is the same for me.

And NL Soldier, see The Godfather, for gosh sakes.

There was one directed by Ida Lupino that seems to be lost. Supposedly an incredible film. Oh well.

P.S. -- I was underwhelmed by Citizen Kane too, although some of the technical aspects of it were often very cool.

I saw Casablanca and Citizen Kane in a screenwriting class, with a professor stopping it every ten minutes and talking for five. Almost would rather have not watched them after that, but they are good.

I think not seeing the Good, the Bad and the Ugly is by far one of my biggest shortcomings.

Maybe Streetcar Named Desire? Although I hear it's better as a play... still... Brando... should probably see this one.

Until recently hadn't seen Godfather Pt. II. Glad I got around to that, it was damn good.

I rented that Bergman flick, the Seventh Seal, but I was so tired I couldn't watch it. Kicked myself for that.

According to the IMDB list I am also a criminal for not seeing:

Dr. Strangelove (probably true, I should see this)
Raging Bull (ditto)
The Pianist (try and make me care)
2001
Mystic River
Shrek

It seems kind of criminal that all three Lord of the Rings movies were so high up. I mean, yeah, they were great, but come on.

See 'em both.

Big Lebowski is one of those "Love it" or "Meh" kind of movies. I think it's a classic.

The reason Kane is such a big deal is because of the innovations it brought to filmmaking.

The story itself may seem trite b/c so many movies have borrowed aspects of it and what was so important and groundbreaking in 1941 is old hat now.

Anyways, I just looked over AFI's top 100, and I've seen 29 of them (a lot for how young I am?) although I've yet to see The Godfather. Also my roomate has the movie Vatos (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00007M5JC.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg) and I have yet to see that as well, hear it is good.

I just looked at the IMDB list. As far as the top 30 go, counting only titles in English, I haven't seen:

--Dr Strangelove (but I want to),
--Momento (that premise sounds too ridiculous for me to buy into),
--Laurence of Arabia (can't seem to get excited about this one).

Oh yeah, and all the LOTR and Star Wars films. Not my cup of tea, sorry.

I picked up a Citizen Kane DVD at Blockbuster. One of the features was Roger Ebert's commentary. He breaks down the photographic innovations, and special effects innovations, as well as the literary and symbolic stuff that we in the unwashed masses would probably miss without his help.

It's pretty cool. I was glad I watched it.

Wow, I've only seen 41 of the AFI's top 100.

But a lot of them, I TRIED to watch, but gave up after 20 or 30 minutes. Such as "On the Waterfront", "American in Paris", "American Grafitti", "Gone with the Wind", "Sunset Blvd", "Some Like it Hot", etc.

Maybe now that I'm older, I should try them again.

Lawrence of Arabia
On the Waterfront (Brando has always kind of bugged me)
Sunset Blvd.
The African Queen (I've seen parts of this one many times, but never sat through the whole thing)
Grapes of Wrath

I'm surprised by how many people haven't seen The Godfather. I was just watching it on tv with my father-in-law this weekend who mentioned that he had never seen it before. When he left, he took my copy of Godfather II to watch. If you take 1 and 2 together (as one story) they are one of the best out there.

I also highly recommend reading the book (it covers the story of I and II.) The movie can be a little tough to follow the first time.

Sadly, you can't get the original trilogy on DVD. Yes, I know the special edition was released on DVD recently, but I'm talking about the original theatrical releases. I'm not buying the special editions, I'm holding out for the real films. If Lucas releases the originals, I'll buy them almost whatever the price.
