Looking at your question, I suspect most of us would have done the same as you. That said, with all the players in at that point, and the three hearts showing, a patient player would most likely have dropped out.
It is very hard to lay down a strong hand with a nice pot in front of you but that is what I have been trying very hard to teach myself. It is very important when plyaing in a tournament or when all your chips are at stake.
