914 entrants - down to 8 players. I have 400,000 chips, which is 6th. Blinds are 20K-40K.
I am in the big blind. Early position raises to $160K. He has me covered.
I wake up to Ac Ad. Go all in. Raiser calls. Shows Ah Kd.
Flop comes Kc 5c 3c. Even with the K flop, I am well ahead, with a flush + ace redraw if he hits 2 outer on 4th street.
Turn comes Kh!
River is a blank.
I finish 8th and win $760. He goes on to win the tournament and $8K.
Can't ask for a much better situation at a final table. But the dream turned into a nightmare. That's poker.

As a friend of mine aptly put it, bad beat stories never start out, "I had the Jack-eight of clubs, and . . ."

and rarely end with "and then i spiked my 2-outer to bust him for all his chips."

If it helps you any, I had Aces beaten 3 times in that tourney, AFTER the buyin period. Once by tens, once by J3o (caught someone trying to steal, or should I say, he caught me), and once by KQs.
It wasn't a pretty night.

At about 1:30 a.m. PST last night I get a call from my best friend who tells me he just moved in on a guy w/ AK and ran into AA and how he went on to hit a 2 outer on the guy and go on to win the tournament. Small world. He's also a lurker here.

Binions,
Yep. We're sitting here right now talking about the tournament. Like I said, small world. Nice job on the final table by the way. That's a tough task wading through all those people.

Fair enough, but does this count?
So there I was, in the Big Blind with Ten-5 (off-suit, of course). Limpers to me, I check.
Flop: TT5
Long story short, two of us end up with all our chips in the middle, and the SB turns over...Ten-5 (off suit), and we split.
If anyone wants to figure out the odds of this, I'm curious.

If you have T5, there is three Ts and three 5s left out of 50 cards.
Total number of possible hands against you: 50*49/2*1 = 1225.
Total number of T5 hands = 3*3 = 9.
Chance another T5 is out against you if you have T5 = 9/1225 or 136.1:1.
Now, if two people have T5, the odds to flop TT5:
Total number of flops with other 48 cards = 48*47*46/3*2*1 = 17296.
Total number of TT5 flops with TT55 missing from deck = 2
Odds against 8,647:1
So, if you hold T5, the odds of 1) someone else holding T5, AND 2) the flop coming TT5 are
1,176,952.8:1

This is chucktheluck, i was pretty much pot committed. The hand before, I was reraised and I had assumed you were trying to push me around. Its a bad break and I know how it feels. Its happened to me many times.
