http://deathball.net/notpron/

has anyone ever heard of or tried this before?
I started a while ago and am on level 6 of I think
38 levels. I find it fascinating. Let me know what
you all think. The site says only .04% complete
the last level. good luck, try not to cheat.

ps may or may not be the hardest puzzle EVER, but I
sure can't leave it alone

I tried the thing for about five minutes, getting up to 3. Then I got a little stuck, and decided to read this thread for clues/perspectives, etc.

All this talk about URL's and source codes definitely seals it for me.

I'd rather read Being and Nothingness or watch How Stella got Her Groove Back than do a "puzzle" that is dependent on the fact that you understand computer code.

On second thought, I think I'll just play some more poker.

I mean, who's got time for this "puzzle" when I just clicked on my Party "buddy list" and almost all of my "buddies" (read: donks) are in the house, playing $15/$30??!

daryn

The cluue for 7 was in the source code, initially I went to a translator web site, but then wondered if it was marathon type thing where they hads changed to name, so I go to it that way.

7 was the easiest for me so far it was a more logical puzzle.

You don't really need the picture to be lighter to see the username and password. However, it is encrypted so that it may be difficult to figure out... not if you look at the hints earlier in this thread though.

Googling brings you to a BBVD song "some things" that uses "on the 8th of november", and "if your love should fail." Then the source code says the password/username are not obvious (its not love or fail, no!). But then people bring up the "is your torch still lit." There's too much info going on so I'm stuck. Up around #10-13 it gets to be a drag. I thought the first few were fun, but it gets really obscure and painfully annoying.

I thought it was fun having to trick the computer or whatever. But later, it's just finding really really obscure references.

that was almost my exact thinking. i was very interested at first in a puzzle, but like you said, source codes, editing URL's,

Dude, there's nothing nerdy about knowing how to do either of those things. Everybody should know how and it's not like it's hard. You edit a URL everytime you visit a website you don't have bookmarked or link to. It's called typing in the address bar.

I'm such a loser...still stuck on number 6

Here's what I've done so far:

1) Used the ALT key in all sorts of different ways
2) Looked up the lyrics of songs by alternative bands that include 'he's got it all' or 'then his life went down the drain'
3) Thought about alternative sources of fuel/power

At this point, I noticed the word 'anagram'..

4) Rearranged only the first three letters of 'he's got it all' because the first three letters of alternative are capitalized. This was the most promising one, as I came up with 'she got it all' and thought that that had to do with '...then his life went down the hill...' (divorce)
5) Anagrammed 'he's got it all' while leaving the word 'alt' out
6) Attempted to anagram 'then his life went down the hill' before realizing that the anagram programs I found only allow up to 25 letters (this fragment has 26)

Are any of these even close? The next thing I'm gonna try is throwing my monitor out the window.

Agreed. It is so obscure that you have to guess or cheat. The colors are obscured so you couldn't tell by that and there is no discernible writing.

No you are on the way wrong track. Try looking at the source code. Or try highlighting the bottom of the web page. That's not the answer, but it points you in the right direction. This riddle is not really related to music.

The picture was obviously a Twix bar. There shouldn't have to be any guessing or cheating involved. I mean, it's obviously a wrapper, right? And it's obviously gold and red, right? And it's most likely a candy bar wrapper because of the shape and size, right? So how many metallic gold and red candy bar wrappers are there? Speaking of cheating though, NLSoldier has been incessantly trying to get me to cheat at these puzzles. What a jerk. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Okay, I highlighted the bottom of the page and I see a box in the lower right corner, but right clicking the page and selecting 'View Source' doesn't do anything. It would be kinda funny (read: infuriating) to find out that I just have an incorrect browser setting or something.

Try highlighting it a different way.. like click a blank space towards the bottom and move up and to the right. For some reason if you just try to highlight all the text, all that you can make out is a box.

This "puzzle" has some major flaws as I see it.

Maybe it's the settings on my monitor, but the colors of the wrapper were by no means "obviously gold and red." I knew it was a candybar wrapper, but would never have guessed it was a twix.

I think this has something to do with how dumb some of the references and riddles are made up. I get progressively more and more disappointed the further I get into this thing.

He's actually only tracking the number of hits each web page gets, so if you leave your computer and go back to the puzzle later, you'll keep increasing the number of hits on the first few puzzles, making it seem like more people are attempting it.

What number are you on? Some of the later questions really do require you to "guess" how he has worded something for the password. You may KNOW what the password SHOULD be, but the exact spelling and method of dividing the username and password are left up to trial and error. I wont list the specific answers that you must "guess" on, because I do not want to post any spoilers. I will list one of the question numbers however.

14 and in my opinion, 12.

"Change water to wine"

It shouldn't view notepad as a pop-up? At least, I see no reason why it should. It's not a webpage. It's just IE telling an external program to open up. There may be some security setting that prevents IE from opening an external app, I dunno. But it doesn't seem likely given that you are MANUALLY opening an external app through IE. It's not as if some website was trying to get your computer to execute the program. Since the command comes from a local source, I can't believe that it's pop-up blocking.
But, since i don't know for sure, I guess it could be. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif
