If you're going to ask us "what should I have done" type questions about Internet tournaments then we HAVE to know whether you are playing for money or not. It turns everything upside down, to the extent that it's almost impossible to answer "play money" questions anyway, opponents could have any mindset at all.
It's hard enough to answer these questions in general, to the point where I very rarely ask them, not because I think I know all the answers but because without sufficient contextual information the only correct answer is "it depends". It's clearer in short-stack situations but we still need as much information as you can give us about opponents' styles of play, their perception of you, and so on. And if you think about this kind of information before you ask, it might lead you to your own answer.
Don't be put off from posting, just give us all the information that you have yourself if you want some helpful advice.
