Some of my friends and I were recently discussing the issue of whether or not the WSOP buy-in should be raised. (As per the recent article in Card Player.)

I was wondering what some other people thought.

10K ain't what it use to be. I think they should raise it up. There are a lot of Tournaments on the WPT that have the same buy-in

I definitly think raising the buyin would help the event, it would push out some of the fruits and suckers and help make the tourney a little more legit. However, I believe there are tax/regulatory issues that help keep 10,000 the magic number. I hope someone knows more and can elaborate.

It should be the top buy-in tourney out there. There are other 10k tourneys. I'd like to see 20k or 25k.

Its the most exciting and most prestigious tournament out there. It doesn't need a higher buy-in to increase those factors.

And the sheer mind boggling size of the thing is pretty cool too.

Yeah there are a lot of other big buy in tourneys, and I've seen all the WPT events but off the top of my head I can't name a single one and while I can name a number of WPT winner's I can't match any of them to a given tourney. Yet mention Moneymaker, Raymer, Varkoni, Chan, Stu, Doyle (etc etc etc etc) do I know they've won the WSOP--you bet I do.

The wsop ain't broke, and it sure doesn't need to raise its entry fee for any kind of prestige reasons.

Maybe keep the 10k the main event and add a 25-100k buy-in tourney?

If they made it 20k, it wouldn't be the top buy-in out there.
