View Full Version : Shoe In of the Week

Big Al
11-18-2004, 12:11 PM
Since I will be on vacation starting Sunday for a week, this Shoe In will be one that covers two weeks. On Thanksgiving day Dallas plays Chicago. The Cowboys played Monday night against Philly, travel to Baltimore this Sunday to face a super tough, hard hitting defense, then come home and play the Bears 4 days later. I look for them to be beat up, both physically and mentally. Uhrlacher out for the Bears hurts but I still expect Chicago to win this game fairly easily. No matter what the line, take the Bears versus the Cowboys on turkey day. It's Big Al's Shoe In of the Week.--Big Al--

So whats the shoe-in for this weekend?-is it Dallas to lose to Baltimore?

Big Al

I do think Dallas will lose to Baltimore but I am not sure if they will cover. One thing I found interesting about the game Monday night was there was talk about disension in the Cowboys locker room with Parcells and the team was ready to quit on him. The defense stunk but I thought the offense played hard, not like a team that has packed it in on their coach. It appears the offense is still trying and with it now going against the Ravens defense, I look for them to play hard but also get beat up. Then they play 4 days later, thats the game where I look for the offense to pack it in, thus why I like the Bears. I think this is a tough week. Of all the games, I like the Texans and the points at home against Green Bay. The Pack has had to get up for some tough games recently and they now go on the road. Houston has been blown out twice in a row and now they come home for a nationally televised game. I look for GB to be slightly off their game and Houston up for theirs. I wouldnt exactly call it my Shoe In, but it is the one game on Sunday I will be hitting hard when I am at the Orleans. Good luck.--Big Al--

This is ridiculous.

Big Al is making a pick with no idea what the line is.

He knows nothing about injury news and other factors.

I always suspected he was a guesser. Now I know he is.

Next season I will back my picks against Big Al's for up to 10k.

I've been coming here over 3 years under this name and thehawk67.

If you think Big Al is a Demi God back it up with hard cash.

He has just shown no regard for his followers money.

I am utterly shocked.

Since I don't see any posts by you on sports picks (nor any posts in the recent archives by thehawk67 at all), your credibility isn't too high.

Start posting your own picks, or fading Big Al (I hope you like losing), and we'll see what you're made of, poser. No need to wait for next season- the meat of the season is upon us.

Put up or shut up.

Not really- he knows the line isn't going to be huge, unless a lot of injuries occur before then.

I have discussed why I like the Bears on Thanksgiving in two different posts here. I also stated I was doing this pick because I was going to be gone for a week and there would not be a Shoe In next week so this kinda covered the two week period. Read more closely my posts. My record, thru the years here, speaks for itself.--Big Al--

Big Al's pick isn't that hard to imagine given that The Bears have a superior defense and running game and currently are better coached than the Cowboys. The only X factor is if the Cowboys get destroyed this week and the line lists Chicago as a big fave..which is unlikely.
I do get a bit worried about betting a thanksgiving prime time game though...but as long as Big Al is betting on the Saints then i'm ok with it.

I'm pretty sure I don't get the resentment. Speaking only for myself, I think Big Al is a fallible human that has been successful betting on sports. I enjoy reading his posts and seeing his thoughts. If I bet on a game that he likes, I consider it my choice, and win or lose, I am grateful for his insight. I suspect this attitude is widely shared...

That's unfair for several reasons. He does care about people that follow his picks -- and he shouldn't. You sound like a ten year old in need of a time out.

HEY BA ENJOY VEGAS. Wish I was in town to share a beer. Bit surprised you aren't going to be at the SC game...

hawk67 used to be a fairly regular poster at least -before 2+2 went to the currently used forum software(3-4 yrs ago?) -don't ask me why I remember that.He was a solid shorthand holdem player and in that respect has some creditbility with me...however hawk -you should also know big als track record on sports betting-for at least 3-4 years on this site his posted shoeins have made myself and many others on this site ALOT of money.(Couple of seasons ago I think he only had 2 wrong all year)In my eyes Big Al is one of the most respected posters on this forum and if he comes out with such a bold prediction on a game I will take a hard look at it.

A Big Al shoe in is a multiple unit bet in my book. I am NOT a handicapper, and I look toward insight from many posters, Big Al especially, for advice. The beauty of 2+2 is that it is filled with people trying to improve their gambling. Constantly trying to improve your gambling is a trait of a winner. Therefore, most people on 2+2, not just Big Al, are decent gamblers. Of course, there are the occasional posters who like to masturbate while challenging someone their jealous of...after they misread a post

"No matter what the line, take the Bears versus the Cowboys on turkey day."

My line on the game is Chicago -7.5. You and your followers can bet Chicago for as much as you like with me at that handicap.

Giving a pick without any parameters is patently ridiculous.

That's a dumb statement.. the line won't be that high unless the goddamn team bus crashes on the way to Texas Stadium.

Even so, a ragtag bunch they picked out of the tailgaters could probably cover against the Cowboys. /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Week 17. Miami at Baltimore.

Miami have mailed it in for the season. Nothing to play for, a long injury list and their coaching staff are history. They are already mentally on holiday. Baltimore are fighting for playoff position and some key players - Ogden, Heap, McAllister - have returned. This is a good spot for them. The rabid home crowd will spur them to a crushing victory. Back them regardless of the line.

Listen moron. Your point, such as it was, wasn't mysterious and has already been made. Of course it is a bold statement, not knowing the line or the injuries or seeing this weeks performance. He's saying 3 +/- 1 or whatever it turns out to be, isn't going to make a difference. Absurd? Well, not really. What is absurd is you wanting people to deal with an assinine hypothetical line of 7.5 or offering an assinine analogy about week 17 as if these make some important point. You don't see the inadequacy of your argument, which is fine, go ahead, keep pounding the table in exasperation, flapping your gums, and trying to make your Scientifick case for us idiots. I'll be listening for the thundering pop that accompanies the moment when you pull your head out of your fourth point of contact. I will expect silence, of course, instead.

You may consider me to be moronic and asinine but I can guarantee you that I have never been so moronic or so asinine as to tell people to bet a team regardless of the line.

Sportsbooks are desperate for people like you to open accounts with them. You are their bread and butter.

You won't hear a peep from me whatever happens. The outcome of the game is immaterial. You might be an after timer but I am not.

I may or may not make a play on the game, but at this stage it could be on either side. In advance it looks like a good spot for Chicago, but I won't be betting until I have analysed this week's games, seen the injury report, know who the Dallas starting QB is going to be and, heaven forbid, actually know what the line is.

The line determines whether or not a team is a good bet, not the fact that at first glance it might appear to be a good spot for them.

Big Al didn't see a game this week he liked, but saw something shaping up on the horizon that he really liked and that he wouldn't expect to be able to post about. Most of us are here are grateful for his insight. Little wonder, he actually has a track record of providing useful information. This apparently annoys people. Worked into a high dudgeon because the line could in a parallel universe conceivably be 7+ or some other chain of more likely events could change things, they bray. It's baffling. Your concern for us lemmings who might blindly give 7 points or take a crippled team because Big Al didn't get a chance to modify his comments upon seeing the landscape change is comforting.

Nope...I didn't have any argument with big al's picks I just didn't like his pick that week. Now if something freeky happened this week and the line for the bears vs. cowboys came out bears -10...then I'de bet $1000 Big Al would put up a post that the bears might not be that great of a pick--Now that is highly unlikely and any moron should know that if it did happen, then they should re-evaluate the bet.

However Bungle is misguided in saying that Big Al is a moron in telling people to take the bears whatever the line is. Big Al is assuming a less than (7) line plus or minus for the bears...but is going to be gone so can't wait for the line to post before putting up his post.

I was talking about this thread. I over reacted in the early one you mention. I don't see the line near 7, and would not eat 7.5 if that were the case, no matter who is pitching. I think my point in this thread is obvious, and I gather you agree with me...

PS Maybe this thread provides some context for that earlier thread.

That's the home field line. I didn't know who was playing at home, but figured it was probably the Bears because Al tends to bet home teams and just the nature of the conversation. This is essentially the line I expected. Two shitty teams with problems on both sides of the ball, and the home team giving between 2 and 3.5. When I saw that it was Dallas at home, I chuckled...

Hope everyone is having a great turkey day. I see I started a little controversy here. Posting this about a half hour before kickoff. I am at some relatives house in SD and snuck on the kids computer. If you cant figure it out, I took the money line on the Bears at plus 155 at the Orleans. I went very heavy on it, well in excess of a dime. If Bears win (which I think they will or I wouldnt have posted this pick before the line was posted) I will be back in Vegas Saturday and it will be party time at the Orleans. Wanted to post this before game time so if the Bears win I didnt want to come on here and tell everyone what a big winner I was. I think I covered why I like the Bears in this spot so I am a bit confused as to why all the controversy. You know I had a big smile when I saw plus 155 on the ML. Talk to you soon.--Big Al--

This is precisely why i bet the cowboys today, not because I like fading the shoe-in but there was tons of public money on the Bears and thats never good for a "shoe-in". The fact that the boys were favored since the line opened and didnt move much seems like the books were taking a stand and wanted money on the bears. but its just one game so what the hell do i know? /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Too bad we didn't know beforehand that Krenzel would go out and the Bears would have to play Jonathan Quinn, Medicine Woman.

IMHO, no one has a righteous beef with the result of this game unless they could anticipate Ms Quinn entering the game. And since no one could credibly claim to have counted upon that contingency, there can be no beef. What a bad break.

Eagerly awaiting the next shoe-in, and let's hope Al finds another PC to borrow while on vacation.

I'd like to second this support... While I said it was a bold statement to make a pick sans-line (and I still say that), Big Al gave his reasoning and as others pointed out there was a tightish range for the line to be in.

Anyways, just my minor way of saying, yes, please, post another Shoe In, Big Al. I enjoy reading your posts and betting your picks.

Im from Chicago and have watched Krenzel and Quinn play. Quinn is by far the worst QB I have ever seen wear a Bears uniform. he stares down receivers, over-under throws the majority of his passes, isnt mobile, fumbles, throws interceptions, and just looks scared out there. I knew as soon as he entered the game the shoe wasnt covering. Krenzel sucks too but plays good enough not to lose. I agree Als bet was right on if the bears could keep a healthy QB.
