recently i've been trying to specify situations in which it is ok to see 5th street when you catch bad on 4th street (starting with 3 babies) and when it is a definite fold... specifically, the factors that go into the decision are pot size, the strength of your starting hand (versus the presumed strength of opponents' hands), what they caught, how many opponents are in the hand and your position (and liveness of your cards versus your opponents)

let's say you start off with something ok but not great like 2/images/graemlins/club.gif 4/images/graemlins/spade.gif 6/images/graemlins/heart.gif, and you are up against a worst low draw (a seven up) and two high hands (paints)...

a) you catch a banana and the seven catches a good card like a deuce or ace... do you continue for 1 bet?
b) what if you had put in a full bet on 3rd? 2 bets on 3rd?
c) how does this change if the seven catches an eight?

it depends on what the other guy going for lo does. if he bets out id say fold. if hes just calling and its only 1 bet i think you can see 5th.

You might be better served if you looked for spots where you could fold rather than spots where you could play on.

If the other low guy catches good and you catch bad, you should almost always fold unless you have good high possibilities. If it went two bets on third street, you might consider taking a card off if you're sure you can get in for one bet, but even that's not that great a situation. You're almost certain to have to call a big bet on fifth, either because the low hand will have gotten there or the high hand will force his edge, so you're looking at a reverse implied odds situation. If the low hand is showing 78, it's still not that great for you, as it's somewhat unlikely that the Eight paired him. It's much more likely that a Deuce would hit one of his hole cards. In any case, he's in better shape for high and low than you are, and there's the high hand to consider. A lot of players lose a lot of money by staying too long when they bust. Don't be one of them.
