I've been lurking aroung RGP for a bit. And I have a question for all 2+2er's who care to respond.

I am planning on playing in the limit holdem 1k, and NL 1k tourneys at the Taj in Dec. Exactly how much cheating do you think is going to occur in these tourneys? I don't want to be preoccupied with cheating and want to play my game. If I see anyone with a blue pair of shades, it will take me off my game. I'm getting a little disgusted with cheating, and it is more widespread than I originally thought.

I was down in AC last weekend and can't tell you the number of warped cards I saw. It was pathetic!!!! Somebody decided to fingernail every 5 in the deck!? I started calling 5's at the table to get my point accross. It worked. Players beware!!!! And don't be afraid to police your games!! Friggin cheats get up when I sit down, and that's a fact.

Let me just say that here at 2+2 we dont run around paranoid as the rgper`s do...Casinos are very well policed and as well the players police the tables ( as you mentioned)...

Please remember 2+2 is for intelligent non disfunctional cardplayers..

WE are more concerned with concepts, strategies, positional issues etc.. etc...

Well, all those concepts, strategies, and positional issuses go out the window if there's cheating going on. I think it should at least get discussed. I was actually look for some intelligent 2+2 feedback on the issue. Because I respect this forum. RGPers are definately wacky.

I don't want to start a huge thread on cheating like I've seen on RGP. But, I did have a situation occur in a tournament that got me thinking. It's a long story, but basically, someone got me to expose my hand (he indicated that he was calling my all-in bet), and then called the floor to rule it dead. I haven't been playing for too terribly long and at the time I just thought I had made an error and got lucky that the floor agreed that the other guy had indicated a call. When I relayed the story to a friend, he IMMEDIATELY came to the conclusion that it was done on purpose as a "move". So did the next three people I talked to. Now I'm wondering if I'm just naive to the ways of the poker world due to lack of playing hours. I'm concerned that this would hold true in regards to cheats - I might not recognize when it's happening, or at least not know what exactly is happening that gives me that uneasy feeling.

Are there anything out there (books, videos, etc.) that are GOOD resources to help "novices" get up to speed on cheating and moves that might be used against them? I'm not interested in conspiracy theory literature...

Dannyboy did not intend to you to interpret the message as an attack. Its just that its very rarely a concern around here and as you can see very few have responded in the last 2 days..

You have every reason to be concerned. I hope the floor made him call with the lesser hand. What a jerk! I've only recently begun to worry about cheating, because I'm trying to move up in limits. But all the filthy decks I've seen in AC are pathetic. I don't feel it's managements fault, but they know the decks are getting marked up. They need to be more vigilant! When I sit in a game, heads roll baby if I see nicked up cards. It's so obvious! I'll get up and leave if I don't get a fresh setup. In regards to the big tourney coming up. I'm not too concerned because I trust the intergrity of the TAJ and TROP staff. But first sign of funny business, and the WORLD WILL KNOW!!!

One question...(well two) -

1. What's wrong with blue shades?

2. Couldn't you request a setup?

I think that cheating is a lot like women...If you think she's interested in you..you take every single attempt at contact as a sign...likewise if you think she's not interested...you take everything she does as a sign she doesn't want you.

Same with cheating...once you think it's happening...you see every muck, bet, mysterious fold as a cheating situation...I'd be less concerned with the cards and more concerned that someone was dumping chips. Be sure you're not looking and accusing players for no reason whatsoever...if you can help it.

Having said that...half of security is deterrance...not prevention...they aren't everywhere...and it can happen.

Funny story...we were talking about cheating one time at a table...and the floorman was talking about how "our cameras are the best...we see everything, blah de blah" - and a player shot back..."Oh yeah? then how come you guys didn't catch the guy who stole my cell phone off my drink cart right next to the table?" -

damned good question if you ask me.

This is a bit of a move for sure, you just have to be aware and with experience you will not get caught. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was cheating though, there are degrees of these things and that is not really in the same league as marking cards, which should IMO be punished with Robert de Niro in "Casino" style basement violence.
