I might be wrong but I think it's the fact that the Screen Actors' Guild doesn't allow the same names to be used ever. So if some guy who was in SAG in the 1950's had or used your name, you're kind of forced to go with either your middle name or middle initial.

cool, that makes sense. i think it should have a statute of limitations unless somebody's jersey gets retired. one would think it could get a little ridiculous in 100 years after every name has been duped.
