So I went to lunch yesterday on business. We went to one of those slightly upscale restaurants so popular in downtown Palo Alto. I ordered the Salade Nicoise.
I said "I'd like the Salade Nisswaazz please."
The waitress gets this snotty look on her face and says "Oh, OK. You want the Salade Nisswaa." with a heavy emphasis on the "nisswaa".
And I'm sittin there like spare me the attitude bitch. I took French in highschool. I took French in college. The default rule is if there is a vowel following the last consonant, then you pronounce the consonant. Otherwise the consonant is silent.
What is the correct pronunciation?
