I mean, I hear more Cars-influenced music out there these days than either J. Geils (nominated this year) or The Police (enshrined last year)...doesn't that say anything?

Any guy that ugly who scores chicks that hot is the epitome of rock and roll.

J. Geils band got nominated? I didn't realize they did anything to warrant such consideration.

isn't this practically automatic?

BTW, the R&R HoF is a great idea for a museum, but a dumb idea otherwise.

you would think so...but The Cars were not on the ballot this year or last year, their first two years of eligibility.

Yes.

"Please Kill Me", the seminal oral history of punk has many artists talking about how the first Cars album was in part the deathknell of punk in NY. They could hear the future of music in that record and figured when they listened to it that their time was done. Of course, this did in part come true.

To me, the Cars debut is one of the top 25 rock and roll records of all time. They deserve to go on its merits alone, IMO.

I'm from Cleveland, but still think a HOF for rock and roll is a pretty silly idea. But if they are going through with the exercise its worthwhile to discuss who goes.

Plus: J Geils sucked.
