Just an FYI to all those who have been looking to buy this model.

It is the standard monitor in my company and our reorder has been taking ages. We called our rep and turns out they will be discontinuing it soon to make way for the 2005FPW...the W as in widescreen. It will be the same price.

Before you get all excited, the widescreen is nice, however the resolution is 1680x1050 and not 1600x1200. Less pixels = overlap for those who 4 table. Not much, but some.

You can see the 2005 at the their site now, and you can still order the 2001....but it will take a while to deliver.

forgive my ignorance. will this make the 2001FP more expensive or less expensive going forward?

In other words, since i'm in the market for two of them, should I order as soon as possible or take my time considering that im not in a big hurry anyways...

Check the internet forum. There's a link to a sale on these monitors - $599 each right now. I'm too lazy to put the link here /images/graemlins/smile.gif

its actually 1680 x 1050. still sucks that they are reducing it though.

This makes no sense to me at all. You are acutally getting less pixels on this widescreen version. Unless you have a hard on for widescreen there is no reason to buy this. Get a 2001FP while you can.

This link (http://www.firstadopter.com/fa/archives/000377.html) says that the 2001FP will not be discontinued.

UPDATE: Dell has contacted FirstAdopter.com and said 2001FP is NOT being replaced. Dell sees the 2005FPW as a new addition to their product line as their "wide-screen" LCD monitor. The email is as follows -

The 2005FPW does NOT replace the 2001FP. It is a new addition to our product line. It is Dell’s first widescreen, but we do feel customers will still want a 20” standard 4:3 aspect-ratio monitor, so we are not discontinuing the 2001FP, nor will there be a “firesale.”

I don't know, Bukem. They're already about the lowest I've seen them, around $600 on sale. Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years being right around the corner, though, I'm sure we're at a period where the prices are going to be spiking pretty low.
