Hello everyone. I am going to Vegas with some friends from Dec 3. to the 6th for the first time. I was wondering where the best places to play at are for $1-2 to $5-5 NL games and even maybe some low limit games. If you know of extraordinary easy games that may be $5-10 NL I would consider that also.

Another issue is a place to stay. Is there anyway we can get good deals on poker room rates and where would you all reccomend staying. We are poor college kids with only our bankrolls to support us.

One final issue is one of the kids is not 21 yet. He has a good fake ID which had worked 3 for 3 in colorado indian casinos and is 9 for 10 buying alcohol. Should he have a problem?

Do a search in the B&M Cardrooms for more detailed info, but I'll answer a few of your questions.

Many cardrooms have a 1/2 nl game. I'd reccommend Excalibur for the strip and Binion's for downtown. The Bellagio and Mirage each spread a 2/5 nl game. I've played in neither, so can't speak as to which is softer, but I personally prefer the Bellagio card room over the Mirage. Check out both, however, as they are very nice.

As for the fake issue, it is really up to you whether you use one. A friend of mine successfully used one at Binion's, and was not carded anywhere else. I look young enough to get carded by anyone who cares, but have never been carded at Bellagio, Mirage, or any other of the supercasinos. Really the only poker room I've been carded at is Binion's. So unless your friend looks really young, I would suggest leaving the fake at home, the chances of getting carded IMO are pretty low.

As for where to stay, I personally prefer staying downtown. Prices are so much cheaper than the strip, getting wasted for cheap is so much easier, and the strip is a brief $2 bus ride away. When the monorail reaches downtown, I will see no reason to stay on the strip.

While we're on the subject of Vegas, does the MGM Grand have a poker room?

If the fake is decent, he won't have a problem at all. As long as he doesn't hit a huge jackpot of some kind, then no worries. I was playing at the vegas crap tables at 17 with a crappy ID, but no one said a word. I would suggest that he doesn't drink while in the casino's though, that will actually land you in some dung if you get caught. However, if they just catch you gambling, they will just throw you out.

Most poker rooms in Vegas don't even card. My younger brother played no problem.

However, a friend of mine's girlfriend tried to use a fake ID at a club and had it bent in half and was turned away.

Actually, won't the casinos get in more trouble than him if he drinks because they are responsible for any negative results?

I'm 22 and look 22, and I was carded more gambling (every time), than drinking (none). If you play cards at Mandaly Bay, they card before you can go into the poker room. This is of course if you look like your not 21.

ive been carded in a poker room one time in all the trips to AC that ive made and i didnt even have any id on me, i just told her i left it in the can and ill show her next week, most of the time they wont care. and in the poker room its even more rare because your not taking the casino's money. bring it with you and use it chance are they arent going to study the id just take a quick glance.
