Making it incorrect to see the river for my opponnents.


3-6 Shorthanded Internet Game 5 people


UTG calls.

Next position folds

I raise from button with 8c8d.

Sb calls

BB calls

UTG calls.


4 of us to see the flop.


Flop is dealt 2c 4c 7d


Sb bets.

BB calls.

UTG calls.

I call- explanation later.


Turn Js.


Sb checks

BB checks

UTG checks


I bet.

SB calls.


River Ac.


SB checks

I check.


SB shows Qs4s.

I have a pair of 88's and take it down.


-the reason why I did not raise on the flop, even though I knew I had the best hand was because I did not want to tie my opponnents onto the hand to see the river-all I would have done was create a bigger pot anyone with an Ace would have called my turn bet as well and would have paid to see the river or anyone else with a higher card than a 7.

I think you played the hand very well.


The reason you state if the most important one, but a few other considerations are that you will be glad that you didnt raise the flop if a scare card comes and you get (a lot of) action in front of you and that you might keep your option of raising the turn if a real harmless card falls of, and therefore punishing draws most.


The only thing you might want to consider is betting the river. See that an ace is IMO an unlikely holding for the SB and that the pot is big enough that the SB will pay you off with a lot of worse hands.
