The fact that the board is paired, devalues your flush draw, since you could be drawing dead. Also your cards are little cards, so pairing may not be a real out. Your only hope at the river was that your opponent was also pushing a draw.
I understand your wanting to agressively push your draw, but don't think that was a good board to try that against. I think you can give it up when he raises you the first time on the flop. There's only 4.5 bets in the pot, and you have around 9 outs (pairing might give you outs, but you could lose to a boat or higher flush or flush re-draw or higher pair, so say that cancels each other out to 9 outs). The problem is you have many ways to improve to a second best hand. I think you have to bet the flop, but once that's raised, give it up. (Of course, a big factor is how that opponent plays. I'm assuming he's not a maniac.)
