According to Abdul, assuming I'm reading his chart correctly, the following hands would be playable: A7 KT QT JT. Intuitively this seems reasonable. His site is www.posev.com (http://www.posev.com).

The problem with A2 is the 2. A large majority of the times your opponent has an Ace when you do, you will lose. Since Aces are played a lot, that's bad news. Also if the 2 pairs, any pair beats you. 7 is high enough that when it pairs it will beat out another pair often enough to make it worth playing, combining it with the times Ace wins unimproved.

A King is not as likely to win unimproved, so you're looking more for a pair. The low card has to be high enough to make up for the times your pair gets beat by another pair. Having it in the T+ range gives you straight possibilities too.

I should add that Abdul's suggestions are based on a regular game where the first n players don't play. That would stiffen up the starting requirements somewhat, since the previous players actually folded hands, so you're not facing random hands like you are in a short-handed game. So you should be able to add a few more hands to Abdul's list, but low kickers are something to be concerned about.
