Hi I have a friend that is really good at poker, and he has agreed to learn me some next weekend. He is a regular in 40/80 games online and does rally great at both multi and sng turnements.
I myself do pretty decent at the 2/4 stakes at party. My question is, what is the most effective way to pick his brain? /images/graemlins/grin.gif

If someone has experience of this kind of things please post your thoughts on the subject.

Watch him play, then ask him some questions after. For good measure, give him some bilars, Kex and Plopp.

I teach a lot of my friends and family now as they are starting to get into poker. I have them send me blocks of 100 hands and I'll just glance through them and offer feedback. Also I sometimes sit next to them and watch them play while helping them analyze the situations. All my friends are starting to get pretty good now and they are moving up limits smoothly.

ok, nice tips ponks.
1 qustion when you look at the 100 hand.
Is there a program or a script that you can replay all the hands in at a fast rate? Or do you look at the raw text?

The thing I'd be worried about is that the moves he pulls and plays he makes will be non-applicable to low limits. Kinda like level 3 moves on a level 1 table/players. I imagine 40/80 is ultra agro with blind stealing the primary focus of the game. Where as 1/2 and 2/4 are basically funded by a few fishies and calling stations.

Yes I have thought about that his moves might be to advanced. But is there a level within reason of 2/4 (maybe 5/10 6-max ) That play more like the high level games? Or at least that you can use his moves better on?

I think having him watch you for a session and comment between hands, although a huge favor to ask, would be the most productive tool.

I just scroll through the raw text, it's not that bad. About 80-82% are just folds preflop anyways. I'd say each of my friends/family send me 100-200 hands a week and they improved immensely. As they get better it's even easier to make comments, as a lot of them were fold preflop, fold flop, etc. Now it's more advanced stuff but fewer hands.
