that you feel never got any credit? We all know the Mario's, Zelda's and GTA's, but what game did you really enjoy that no one even heard of?

One game I really enjoyed was for the original PS called Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I guess it did get some credit but I think people have forgot about it. Awesome game, story, I definetely replayed it a few times.

A SNES game me and my buddy used to play for hours on end was Aerobiz. It was an airplane business sim. It was pretty cool (thought I think if I played it today I would think it's lame.)

StreetFighter 2010 for the NES, I think it was loosely based on the StreetFighter games, it was made by CAPCOM. That game was all sorts of awesome.

Honorable Mention: Hudsons Adventure Island and
3D WorldRunner.

We use to have drunken stoner Dr. Mario tournaments. I remain undefeated vs non-red-headed-vixens. Possible the best strategy game i ever found, since it had cool dancing things that were fun to look at when nearly blacked out.

Castlevania Symphony of Night was pretty kick ass. I finally beat 200.6% this summer. I have seen all four endings and done everything in that game. Best video game soundtrack.

SNES's SoulBlazer is up there. second best video game soundtrack.

A game everyone loves that no one talks about is Chrono Trigger for SNES. copies on ebay go for ridiculous prices.

No way! A group of about 10 of my friends are, to this day, NHL 94 addicts (our ringtones are from the game...etc.). We are sure that if there were a tourney, we would all take it. Unfortunately for you, you play it on the Sega. We play ours on SNES.

Cheers to 94!

I'll go with a tie between Valkyrie Profile and Deus Ex.

Although there are many worthy candidates:
Fallout
Super Monkey Ball
the new Katamari Damacy
The Longest Journal
Serious Sam (ok it's definitely not the *best* but it may well be the funnest)
Vagrant Story
Ico (I'm surprised no one mentioned it, but maybe that's because it's been getting too much 'hidden-gem' publicity lately?)
Breath of Fire V
System Shock 1/2
No One Lives Forever

The list goes on...

I'm not sure Castlevania or Chrono Trigger qualify...they are too popular IMO.

Where do you get the ringtones?

I don't know man--we all could score pretty often with the skate across the front of the net, hold the shoot button to hold the goalie on the short side then release to the wide side just as you cross the midpoint. Pretty much unstoppable if you let the puck-handler get to the spot.

I still remember my Washington Capitals--Kelly Miller & Dino Cicarelli, and I've never ever been a hockey fan.

If this isn't limited to home console games, I'll nominate Cyberball (the original, four-player version). My friends and I spent way too many hours from our teen years battling away at that game, $1.50 at a time.

smb is highly reviewed and a fairly popular item that's now part of their player's choice series. puzzle fighter commanded a mint on ebay for the ps2 version and it's now been remade on several systems (dc, gba, etc). if it's been redone or is part of any "classic" purchasing block i think it should be out.

Return Fire and Dare Devil Derby 3D, both for PS.

Return Fire was a capture-the-flag game played with tanks, helicopters, jeeps, and heavy artillery. Possibly the best 2-player strategy/action game of all time.

Dare Devil Derby was a silly game with stupid music and annoying characters but there was something about the bird's eye view and variety of racing surfaces (earth, water, air) that was just addictive. Some heated rivalries were developed between some of my friends over that game. I've never met anyone who even heard of it beside us.

Another cool game I thought of was Wonderboy for Sega. It was an action side scroller/RPG adventure game. It was sweet.

Vegas Stakes for SNES was tight as well. You started out in a trashy casino playing slots/blackjack etc. (of course the games are +EV so you can move up) and worked your way up to the high roller casinos. People would come up to you while you played asking you for money (sometimes if you gave it to them they would go win a jackpot and give you alot of money. Other times you'd never see them again.)

Gotta go with Tetris Attack for SNES. Completely cheesy graphics, preschool dialogue, and the best gameplay of any puzzle game I've ever played.

The great thing about Tetris Attack was the combos you could set up and string together. It added an extra dimension of play that helped seperate the new players from the experts. It was so much more than fitting pieces into empty areas (which was all tetris really was). And yes, I've played Puzzle Figher, and it doesn't even come close to the complexity allowed in Tetris Attack.

A few other excellent old games:

Stunts (PC)

Marathon (Mac) (For all you Halo lovers)

Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie (N64) (In my opinion, these were the two best games made for the N64).

There are so many flashy games out there with awesome graphics and absolutely no gameplay. I wish game designers would take a lesson from Tetris Attack and realize that good games start with good gameplay ideas first. Graphics and all that are only helpful after the gameplay has been developed.

Apple IIe:

PS2:

SSX - all of them. My vote for some of the best games ever.
